Litigation Associate - Public Advocacy (Hybrid/Remote Option Available)

Role Responsibilities

Based out of the Emeryville, CA office (with hybrid/remote flexibility), the successful candidate will receive mentorship and training to become proficient in asbestos litigation. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting case investigations
  • Managing discovery processes
  • Taking and defending depositions
  • Reviewing documents
  • Drafting and arguing motions
  • Trial preparation
  • Acting as second or third chair in trials, with the opportunity to advance to lead trial counsel over time

Key Qualifications

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Admitted to the California Bar (or eligible for reciprocity)
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities
  • Comfortable with frequent travel when needed
  • A strong commitment to plaintiff-side advocacy
  • Excellent interpersonal and client-facing skills
  • Team-oriented but capable of working independently

Preferred Experience

  • Open to both experienced litigators and recent graduates
  • Prior experience in depositions, legal writing, or trial work is valued
  • Judicial clerkship experience is a plus
  • Candidates are encouraged to submit a writing sample (brief or legal memo) showcasing analytical and research skills
