Position Title

Assistant Women's Basketball Coach

Position Summary:

The Assistant Women's Basketball Coach will assist the Head Coach in all aspects of developing and managing a competitive and successful NCAA Division II women's basketball program. This includes on-court coaching, recruiting, player development, scouting, administrative tasks, and ensuring compliance with all relevant rules and regulations. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, organized, and dedicated individual with a passion for women's basketball and the holistic development of student-athletes.

Principle Duties:
  • Coaching and Player Development:
    • Assist in planning, organizing, and conducting individual and team practices and training sessions.
    • Provide on-court instruction and skill development to student-athletes, focusing on specific positions or areas as assigned by the Head Coach.
    • Assist in the development of game strategies and tactics.
    • Analyze game film and provide feedback to players and the coaching staff.
    • Work with individual players to enhance their skills and overall performance.
    • Contribute to the development of a positive and productive team culture.
  • Recruiting:
    • Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes who meet the program's athletic and academic standards.
    • Maintain a recruiting database and manage communication with recruits.
    • Attend high school and club games and tournaments for evaluation purposes.
    • Assist in organizing and conducting campus visits for prospective student-athletes and their families.
    • Ensure compliance with all NCAA recruiting rules and regulations.
  • Scouting:
    • Scout and analyze opponents, including their offensive and defensive strategies, personnel, and tendencies.
    • Prepare and present scouting reports to the Head Coach and team.
    • Break down game film of opponents.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Assist with team travel arrangements, including transportation, lodging, and meals.
    • Help manage equipment and inventory.
    • Assist with the organization of team community service activities and fundraising events.
    • Contribute to the development of the team's social media presence (if applicable).
    • Assist with the planning and execution of summer camps and clinics.
    • Maintain accurate records and files.
  • Compliance:
    • Adhere to all rules and regulations of Coker University, the NCAA, and the athletic conference.
    • Educate student-athletes on NCAA and institutional rules.
    • Assist in monitoring student-athletes' academic progress and eligibility.
  • Other Duties:
    • Represent the program and the institution in a professional and positive manner.
    • Maintain effective communication with the Head Coach, other staff members, student-athletes, and university personnel.
    • Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach.
Essential Qualifications:

Education
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
Experience
  • Previous coaching experience at the college level is typically required. Playing experience at the collegiate level is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of basketball strategies, techniques, and rules.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit qualified student-athletes.
  • Excellent organizational, communication (oral and written), and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, and video analysis software (e.g., Synergy).
  • Knowledge of and commitment to NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and travel.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel.
  • CPR/AED certification.
  • Successful completion of background checks.
