Pay Range Information:Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate's qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.
Job Description Summary:The Assistant Vice President of Compensation and Benefits to design and implement strategies that support a highly skilled and multifaceted workforce. As Chapman continues to grow, this role will be instrumental in addressing the unique challenges and opportunities of higher education, creating lasting value for the people who make Chapman extraordinary.
As the Assistant Vice President of Compensation and Benefits, you will be a key leader in designing and managing comprehensive compensation and benefits strategies for Chapman University, supporting a workforce of approximately 2,500 employees. Your responsibilities will span the full spectrum of compensation and benefits, with a strong emphasis on fostering a culture of support and engagement for employees. In this role, you will report directly to the Vice President of Human Resources and lead a dedicated team of three professionals in Benefits and two in Compensation.
Responsibilities:Shape Compensation Strategies:
- Lead the design, implementation, and management of salary structures and compensation programs.
- Provide critical counsel on pay decisions and policy interpretation.
Empower Growth: - Conduct job analyses, assign pay grades, recommend salary adjustments, and maintain the institutional organizational charts.
Guide Employee Benefits: - Manage group insurance plans, process enrollments, and provide essential guidance on state and federal regulations.
Advocate for Employee Success:
- Assist employees with retirement processes, troubleshoot benefits issues, and develop action plans for improvement.
Lead the Team: - Make decisions on hiring, performance evaluations, and employee development, and provide leadership on day-to-day benefits and compensation operations.
Required Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field.
- A minimum of seven (7) years of progressive experience in compensation and benefits.
- Certifications such as CBP, CPP, SHRM SCP, or HRCI - SPHR are a plus.
- Deep understanding of federal, state, and local regulations affecting compensation and benefits in higher education.
- Proven ability to lead and manage a team, as well as effectively communicate across diverse constituencies.
