What You'll Do As the
Assistant Store Manager & New Product Specialist, you'll be the second-in-command in the Museum Store, helping lead all aspects of its day-to-day operations while playing a key role in product development and buying strategy.
Key responsibilities include:
- Product Sourcing & Buying Strategy - Research and recommend seasonal and exhibition-related merchandise; help create and maintain a robust line of Nelson-Atkins branded products.
- Vendor Relations & Procurement - Cultivate vendor relationships, manage purchasing processes, and maintain product documentation to support effective sales and storytelling.
- Merchandising - Support the design and upkeep of visual displays to create an appealing, high-impact store environment.
- Invoice & Inventory Management - Track purchasing, billing, and fulfillment; ensure financial documentation is timely and accurate.
- Store Operations - Step in to oversee staff, scheduling, and operations when the Store Manager is unavailable.
- Customer Experience - Provide excellent service through in-person, phone, and online order support.
- Collaboration - Work closely with internal departments and the wider museum team to ensure products align with institutional goals and values.
What You'll Bring - High school diploma or equivalent required; degree or coursework in business, marketing, or retail a plus
- At least 2 years of retail experience, with strong customer service and point-of-sale system knowledge
- Experience with product development, merchandising, inventory, and purchasing
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to juggle competing priorities
- Comfort working in a dynamic, mission-focused environment
- Interest in art, design, or museum culture is a bonus-but curiosity and creativity are key

This is a
full-time, non-exempt position with occasional nights, weekends, and holidays required.
