Description

The Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Virginia seeks candidates for a tenure-eligible clinical faculty position, with specialized training in spine neurosurgery. Responsibilities include:

Clinical: Assume and develop complex spine practice, including scoliosis, and augment with moderate complexity spine surgical practice. Cover 15-20% of department's spine call.

Education: Support resident education and research, including supervision in operating room, inpatient wards, clinic and labs. Participate in fellow, resident and medical student teaching sessions, and in regional and national presentations.

Research: Engage in clinical trials and clinical research projects, apply for internal and external grants to support this research, and publish results.

Courses to teach will include, but are not limited to: Lectures during weekly Resident Education Conferences about how to perform spinal surgery; Hands-on didactic in our cadaver training lab; as well as lectures at national association conference meetings.

Qualifiations

Requirements: M.D. or foreign equivalent.

Three years of surgical experience as an attending or fellow, including with complex spine and scoliosis.

Completion of a residency in neurological surgery.

Candidates must have a demonstrated track record of successful research activity, including outcomes research.

Fellowship training in neurological surgery is strongly preferred.
