Job Summary Florida Gulf Coast University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor within the Forensic Studies Program inside the Department of Justice Studies starting in the Fall 2025. As part of the College of Arts and Sciences, the Department of Justice Studies features undergraduate programs in Criminal Justice, Legal Studies, Forensic Studies, Sociology, and Anthropology as well as masters' programs in Criminal Justice and Forensic Studies. This position reports to the Chair of the Department of Justice Studies. This position is a 9-month appointment and qualifies for a continuing contract. The successful practitioner candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses including Forensic Behavioral Analysis, Crime Analysis, Research Methods, Data Analysis, GIS, and/or Intelligence Analysis. Candidates will be expected to fulfill scholarly research requirements and service responsibilities to the department, college, university, and the community. Candidates will be expected engage in research and service as part of their contract. The Department of Justice Studies encourages collaborative and interprofessional research the successful candidate will show evidence of the ability to merge practitioner and scholarly experiences into research, service and teaching especially in the areas of Intelligence Analysis, Crime Analysis, GIS, and other subjects that align with Forensic Studies including Research Methods and Data Analysis. The candidate must be able to work collaboratively and inter-professionally with faculty, staff, administrators, students and community partners. The candidate must be able to mentor graduate students within the Forensic Studies master's program as Chair of Committees and Mentor for Nonthesis students. The candidate must be mentor graduate student through practicum and have contacts to reach out to for alternative practicum sites for the students. The candidate must be able to work with other faculty to create thesis committees for the Forensic Behavioral Analysis Students. Prepare and deliver consistent, interactive lectures that align with curriculum goals. Work collaboratively with departmental faculty to ensure curriculum outcomes and accreditation standards are met. Advise students and provide individual assistance to students during weekly office hours. Perform regular scholarly research and publication. Additional Job Description Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in Criminal Justice with Concentration in Behavioral Science, Criminal Justice; Criminology; Law, Policy, and Society; Forensic Studies; Human Services; or Ed.D. w/ Spec. in Crime, Criminology, or Criminal Justice, or Ph.D. in Information Systems, Cybersecurity Track, or closely related field from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent accreditation. ABD will be considered if degree is conferred by August 7, 2025. If successful candidate is ABD, appointment will be made at a Lecturer level on a fixed contract. Experience teaching in undergraduate instruction and demonstrated experience working with law enforcement and forensic communities. Demonstrated success in engaged community/school-university partnerships. Evidence of student-centered instruction within a collaborative environment. Record of scholarship including research, case reports, securing law enforcement agency related grants, and publications. Preferred Qualifications: Experience developing students to become practitioners in forensic studies employment and able to work with colleagues to create certificate programs and masters/doctorates. Experience as a crime analyst or intelligence analysis with GIS experiences; case and testimony experience to bring into the classroom Appointment as assist professor with degree in hand at time of application. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of major concepts, assumptions, debates, processes of inquiry, and ways of knowing that are central to the discipline(s). Understanding how to use digital and interactive technologies for efficiently and effectively achieving specific learning goals. Knowledge of critical thinking processes and understanding how to help learners develop high level questioning skills. Knowledge and skill in the use of inquiry-based instructional models and strategies. Knowledge and ability to use technology in various teaching modalities (e.g. Face-to-face, synchronous online or asynchronous online). Ability to collaborate with stakeholders both within and outside the University in the development and delivery of instruction, resulting in improved student learning.
