Job Summary/Basic Function:About This Role:
The Department of Counseling at Lamar University is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Counselor Education with expertise in School Counseling. This position involves teaching graduate-level online courses, maintaining an active research and publication agenda in counseling, coordinating counseling programs, supervising and advising master's-level students, and fulfilling service responsibilities to the department, college, university, and counseling profession. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with faculty colleagues in the College of Education and Human Development and with K-12 school partners. Candidates must be willing to relocate to the Beaumont area and maintain a campus presence.
What You'll Do - Position Responsibilities:
- Teaching and Instruction
- Teach online graduate courses in School Counseling.
- Develop and deliver course content aligned with state and national standards and departmental goals.
- Utilize innovative instructional strategies to engage students in online learning environments.
- Research and Scholarly Activity
- Maintain an active research and publication agenda specific to counseling and counselor education.
- Seek external funding to support research initiatives.
- Collaborate with colleagues and students to produce high-quality research outputs.
- Program Coordination and Curriculum Development
- Assist in the coordination of counseling programs, ensuring alignment with state and national accreditation standards.
- Participate in curriculum development and continuous improvement processes.
- Contribute to program assessment and reporting activities.
- Student Advising and Supervision
- Supervise and mentor master's-level counseling students in clinical and academic settings.
- Provide academic advising and career guidance to students pursuing licensure and professional development.
- Oversee practicum and internship experiences in collaboration with K-12 school partners.
- Service to the Department, College, and Profession
- Actively participate in departmental, college, and university committees.
- Engage with professional organizations such as ACA, ACES, SACES, and ASCA.
- Contribute to community partnerships and outreach initiatives.

Physical Requirements:
Able to lift 25 pounds and be able to perform a variety of physical tasks including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, stair climbing, and walking between buildings.
Job Conditions:- Standard academic hours: Monday - Friday, with evenings as required for webinars, group supervision, student advising, meetings, events, and conferences.
- On-campus presence required for faculty meetings, program, department, college and university events.
- Occasional travel for research presentations, conferences, and community engagement.

Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience):- Ph.D. in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program.
- Professional identity as a counselor educator with an emphasis in School Counseling, demonstrated through education, teaching, research, and professional affiliations (e.g., ACA, ACES, SACES, ASCA).
- A minimum of two years of successful graduate-level online teaching experience.
- Ability to establish and maintain an active research agenda in counseling and counselor education.
- Experience in K-12 school counseling settings, particularly in educational environments.
- Texas certification as a School Counselor or willingness to pursue certification if currently certified in another state.
Preferred Qualifications (Education & Experience):- Experience in online education.
- Evidence of engagement with professional organizations such as ASCA.
