Job Summary/Basic Function:About This Role:
Lamar University's Department of Curriculum & Instruction seeks a qualified tenure-track faculty member to teach, mentor, and advise students at the undergraduate and graduate levels in Special Education. This is a nine-month appointment with an anticipated start date of August 2025. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications.
The selected candidate will deliver engaging and effective instruction in face-to-face, hybrid, and virtual learning environments. The primary instructional focus is Special Education; however, occasional undergraduate or graduate courses in general education topics may be required. The candidate is expected to contribute to research, pursue external funding, and engage in service to the department, college, and university.
What You'll Do - Position Responsibilities:
Teaching
- Deliver high-quality instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels in special education (e.g., learning disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Emotional/Behavioral Disorders).
- Develop and maintain effective course syllabi and assessments aligned with program objectives and university standards.
- Utilize technology effectively to create engaging and interactive online learning experiences.
Provide academic advising and mentorship to students.
Research & Grant Writing- Conduct research and contribute to the field of Special Education through publications and presentations.
- Seek external funding opportunities to support research initiatives.
- Collaborate with colleagues on research projects and interdisciplinary initiatives.
Service to the University and Profession- Serve on department, college, and university committees.
- Engage in professional service activities within the field of Special Education.
- Participate in program assessment and curriculum development initiatives.
Support pre-service teachers through engagement in EC-12 classrooms.

- Ability to analyze and apply assessment data to improve instruction.
Physical Requirements: Able to lift 25 pounds and be able to perform a variety of physical tasks including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, stair climbing, and walking between buildings.
Job Conditions: Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in various modalities. Advising students, serving on committees, conducting research, and pursuing grant opportunities. Engaging with pre-service teachers in EC-6 classrooms.

Benefits - Lamar University Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience):- Earned doctorate in Special Education or a doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis in Special Education (ABD candidates may be considered). With at least 18 graduate hours within Special Education.
- EC-12 Special Education Certification.
- Minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience in a public-school setting with students with exceptionalities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications (Education & Experience):- Texas Teacher Certification in a content area and Special Education.
- Knowledge of Texas Teaching Certification Exams.
- Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in multiple modalities.
- Interest in and commitment to experiential learning.
- Experience with program assessment.
- Certification as an educational diagnostician.
- Experience using Blackboard or similar LMS.
- Emerging or established research agenda.
