About This Role:

Lamar University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership. Based on experience, the successful candidate may also be considered for the role of Associate Chair.
The successful candidate will:

  • Maintain an active research and publication agenda.
  • Provide guidance and leadership in graduate programs related to Educational Leadership.
  • Collaborate with program coordinators and the department chair to advance departmental goals.
  • Teach graduate courses and provide mentorship to students pursuing principal and/or superintendent certification.
  • Supervise practicum students and provide individualized feedback.
  • Advise and mentor graduate students, including serving on or chairing dissertation committees.
  • Engage in service activities within the department, college, university, and profession.
  • Foster partnerships with school districts, community colleges, community agencies, universities, and industry partners.


What You'll Do - Position Responsibilities:
  • Teaching & Mentorship: Develop and teach graduate courses in educational leadership, instructional leadership, curriculum management, research methods, school law, or other related subjects. Provide academic advising and mentorship to graduate students, including supervision of research projects and dissertations.
  • Research & Scholarship: Conduct and publish research in educational leadership or administration. Seek external funding opportunities to support research initiatives.
  • Service & Collaboration: Engage in department, college, and university service, including committee work and accreditation efforts. Foster relationships with school districts, community colleges, and industry partners to enhance educational programs and student opportunities.
  • Program Leadership & Development: Provide leadership in the enhancement and continuous improvement of educational leadership programs. Collaborate with faculty and administrators to ensure program alignment with accreditation standards and educational best practices.

Key Competencies: (KSAs - Knowledge Skills and Abilities):
  • Deep understanding of educational leadership and administration at the P-12 level.
  • Strong pedagogical skills and ability to engage graduate students in rigorous coursework and research.
  • Ability to develop and teach online and in-person graduate courses effectively.
  • Strong research and analytical skills with the ability to secure external funding.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for teaching, mentoring, and presenting research.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and external stakeholders.

Physical Requirements: Able to lift 25 pounds and be able to perform a variety of physical tasks including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, stair climbing, and walking between buildings.

Job Conditions: Standard office and classroom environments, with expectations for research, service, and community engagement. Occasional travel for conferences, research collaborations, or district partnerships may be required.

Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience):

  • Earned doctorate in Educational Leadership, Educational Administration, or a closely related field by August 2025.
  • Evidence of expertise and/or experience in P-12 school administration (campus or district level).
  • A record of excellence, or demonstrated potential for excellence, in teaching graduate courses in at least two of the following areas:
    • Educational leadership
    • Research methods
    • School law
    • Educational technology
    • Instructional leadership
    • Curriculum management
    • District governance
    • School finance
    • Human resources
    • Special populations
    • Administrative internships/practicums

  • Evidence of strong writing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to serve on or chair dissertation committees.

Preferred Qualifications (Education & Experience):

  • Experience in online education and course development.
  • Experience or demonstrated ability to teach graduate-level courses.
  • Principal certification.
  • A commitment to ongoing scholarship with clear connections to educational leadership or administration that led to publications and/or external funding.
  • A commitment to establishing and maintaining partnerships with school districts, community colleges, community agencies, universities, and industry partners.
  • A commitment to department, college, and university service.
