Overview

The Assistant Coach supports the Head Coach in all aspects of team preparation, player development, and game strategy for the Reading Royals. This position plays a critical role in helping maintain a high-performance culture on and off the ice. The Assistant Coach contributes to practice planning, video analysis, individual skill development, and bench management, while serving as a positive leader and mentor to players.

This role pays an annual salary of $44,000-$52,000.

This position will remain open until August 22, 2025.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Head Coach with planning and conducting team practices and game preparation.
  • Support individual player development through one-on-one instruction and feedback.
  • Conduct opponent scouting and video analysis; help develop game plans and in-game adjustments.
  • Assist with bench management during games, including special teams and line changes.
  • Provide feedback and mentorship to players in a professional, constructive manner.
  • Collaborate with the training and medical staff to support player health, fitness, and recovery.
  • Maintain open communication with the Head Coach, Hockey Operations staff, and affiliate organizations.
  • Participate in team meetings, video sessions, and performance evaluations.
  • Represent the Reading Royals at community events, clinics, and team appearances as needed.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, and team-first mentality.
  • Stay current on coaching strategies, player development trends, and league regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach or General Manager.
Qualifications
  • Previous coaching experience at the professional, collegiate, or junior hockey level preferred.
  • Strong understanding of hockey tactics, systems, and player development principles.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a coaching staff and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with video analysis tools and performance tracking software.
  • USA Hockey or equivalent coaching certification preferred.
  • Must pass a background check and uphold league and organizational conduct standards.
