Position Summary:

The College of New Jersey, a member of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) and NCAA Division III, invites applications for the position of Assistant Football Coach. This is a full-time, 12-month position within the AFT (American Federation of Teachers) bargaining unit and reports to the Head Football Coach and the Executive Director of Athletics. The Assistant Coach is responsible for supporting all aspects of a competitive football program, including recruiting, practice and game preparation, player development, academic support, and adherence to NCAA and institutional policies.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Head Coach in planning, organizing, and conducting practice sessions.
  • Support all phases of game-day preparation and execution, including film review and scouting reports.
  • Recruit and retain academically and athletically qualified student-athletes consistent with the mission of TCNJ and NCAA DIII philosophy.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and support for student-athletes regarding academic and personal development.
  • Ensure compliance with NCAA, NJAC, and TCNJ policies and procedures.
  • Assist in travel planning, budgeting, fundraising, and community service initiatives.
  • Collaborate with campus partners including Academic Affairs, Residential Education, and Health & Wellness to support student-athlete success.
  • Participate in department-wide initiatives and serve on committees as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Previous coaching experience at the collegiate level (preferably NCAA Division III) or significant playing experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Commitment to student development and inclusive excellence.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Three (3) years or more of NCAA Football Coaching Experience.
  • Master's degree preferred in a related field.
  • Experience with Hudl or comparable recruiting/film software.
