JOB TITLE: Assistant Coach
REPORTS TO: Athletic Director
Primary Purpose:An assistant coach's role is to provide administrative and organizational support to the head coach and team of athletes. Assists the head coach with implementing the athletic program for the assigned sport in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations. Provides supervision of students during all aspects of the program. Serves as a positive role model to the student athletes and represents the Alsea School District in a well-respected manner at all times.
Qualifications/Requirements: - Coach certification required according to OSAA rules
- Valid first aid card
- Meet OSAA guidelines for emergency first aid procedures
- Experience in and/or knowledge of the sport/activity, coaching techniques, and student supervision
- Ability to work successful with student athletes, parents, school staff, and public
- Ability to perform coaching responsibilities in accordance with school district procedures and policies
- Physical and mental skills abilities needed to perform the essential functions of the position duties assigned by the athletic director and/or principal.
- Must complete required trainings per State Law, Oregon Administrative Rules, and Board policy prior to first day of coaching duties.
Special Knowledge/Skills: Skills to work with coaches and students. Knowledge of district policies and procedures regarding co-curricular activities. Abilities to follow oral and written instructions, work independently with minimal supervision, perform a variety of tasks, adjust to flexible assignments (some night work), and communicate with students, staff and parents.
Experience: Prior job related experience in appropriate sport/activity and/or coaching.
Major Responsibilities and Duties: - Instructional and Program Management
- Be Familiar, and comply, with all school, district, league, and OSAA rules.
- Perform delegated duties assigned by the head coach.
- Be knowledgeable of and implement the planned system and style of play as established by the head coach.
- Enforce all athletic regulations and take initiative in making proposals for improvement in the program through the head coach to the athletic director and principal.
- Attend meetings and professional developments organized and conducted by the high school head coach, athletic director, or principal.
- Demonstrate proper active supervision during all scheduled activities or student/athletes including, but not limited to, game, practice, locker room, and transportation.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of skill development, training techniques, fundamentals,
- game strategy, and the rules of the sport.
- Be responsible for the care, distribution, and collection of District equipment and supplies.
- Communicate with athletes in a manner that models respect. Refrain from using profanity or derogatory language at participants, officials, parents or others associated with the program.
- Develop and maintain a positive rapport with students, athletes, parents, and staff throughout the program and school.
- Cooperate with other school-sponsored sports by encouraging athletes to play more than one sport.
- Practice professional conduct during events and practices.
- Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment.
- Report any conduct that violates the physical, mental or emotional safety of anyone involved in the program immediately to the Athletic Director.
