Position Summary:

Assistant Professor of Counselor Education, 9-month, tenure-track position available August 2025.

The Department of Counselor Education offers the M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and the M.S.E. in School Counseling; both programs are CACREP accredited. The department is also home to the Institute for Play Therapy, Arkansas' first approved Center for Play Therapy Education.

Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Primary teaching responsibilities include face-to-face, hybrid, and online graduate courses in play therapy, research, assessment, internship and related counseling areas.
  • Position would also include administrative activities in areas including but not limited to supervision of clinical field experiences, CACREP Accreditation Liaison, or Clinical experience technology coordinator.
  • Research leading to publications and presentations at academic conferences is expected in this position.
  • Additional duties include academic advising, research and scholarship, university service, collaboration, accreditation related activities, promotion of the program and the university, and other duties as assigned by the Department Chair.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Strong interpersonal skills, online education experience, excellent organizational and communication skills are expected.

General Days/Hours:

The faculty workload consists of the teaching equivalent of nine graduate credit hours per semester.

Minimum Qualifications:

In pursuit of this commitment, candidates will possess an earned doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision (ABD considered) from a CACREP accredited institution.

Candidates should have experience in teaching courses in play therapy, research, assessment, clinical mental health counseling or school counseling at the university level; scholarly achievement in teaching, research and service; and activity in appropriate professional societies.

Knowledge and understanding of CACREP processes and eligibility for relevant licensure as a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor are desired qualifications.
