Position Summary:
The Assistant Director of Multilingual Learners (ADoML) will support Mastery Schools' campuses in implementing and coordinating effective classroom instruction and initiatives for our Multilingual Learner population. The ADoML will play a pivotal role in bridging the work of the central office academic team with its implementation at the school level. In addition, the ADoML will ensure that timely and efficient data and information flow between schools and central office teams. The ADoML will have a variety of ongoing, individual projects, including teacher and leader coaching, professional development, coordination, data dissemination, and compliance project management. The ADoML will report directly to the Senior Director of Multilingual Education.
Essential Job Functions:- Coach Assistant Principals to develop their ESL teachers and ensure strong Multilingual Learner data driven supports across all settings
- Coach ESL teachers to implement evidenced based teaching practices
- Manage a team of centrally deployed Multi-Campus ESL teachers to provide services to Multilingual Learners in schools with small populations, including coaching and evaluation
- Coordinate school to central office communication, developing efficient systems to collect feedback on network supports and strategy
- Develop systems to ensure functional central office departments are informed of federal and state English Language Development policy and their implications on how Local Education Agencies (LEAs) serve their Multilingual Learner student population
- Collect, analyze, and share out Multilingual Learner data from multiple Mastery campuses
- Maintain accurate files and documents related to Multilingual Learners as required by federal and state policy
- Research, purchase and/or develop classroom resources, curriculum and equipment specifically for classrooms and the needs of Multilingual Learners
- Coordinate, develop and present professional development trainings for Multilingual Learner staff throughout the year, as well as onboarding and training at the beginning of the year
- Provide school facing, family and community facing workshops - all intended to inform participants and the network on best practice, policy, and values of all stakeholders
- Support schools in and develop Multilingual Learner programming for students with unique needs
- Support schools in administering state mandated assessments to students across the network
- Manage a variety of projects, inclusive of compliance related projects, at the school and network level, as needed
- Other duties as may be required to ensure central office supports are effective and our schools and students are successful
Qualifications:- Demonstrated expertise in a variety of Multilingual Learner and Bilingual service models
- Proven ability to use data-driven instruction to support student achievement
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience developing instructional and compliance manuals and other supplemental documents
- Expertise in training others to implement research-based practices related to Multilingual Learners
- Experience developing Language Instruction Educational Plans (LIEPs) and/or other state-mandated and content specific plans
- Expertise of instructional strategies to promote language acquisition across content areas
- Ability to interpret and communicate federal and state policy that holds implications on how LEAs serve students and their families
- Be detail oriented and highly organized
- Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills
Education and Experience:- Bachelor's Degree required; Master's degree preferred
- A minimum of three (3) years teaching experience in the Multilingual Learner services field is required; five (5) years teaching experience in the Multilingual Learner services field strongly preferred
- Experience teaching in an under-resourced or underserved communities school setting is preferred
- Experience working with school leaders and presenting workshops in the content area is preferred
Other Requirements:- Ability to physically perform the essential duties of the role as outlined above, and to work in the environmental conditions required, such as traveling to network campuses, monitoring and interacting with students, in-person facilitation of trainings, etc;
- This role may require frequent travel between multiple locations. Reliable transportation is essential to fulfill job responsibilities
