Position Summary:

Arkansas State University, a Division I-A member of the Sun Belt Conference that sponsors 16 sports, seeks applicants for an Assistant Director of Media Relations. The successful candidate will serve as the primary contact for women's soccer, men's or women's basketball, and men's and women's track and field, plus assist with other sports as necessary. The successful candidate will report to the Assistant Director of Athletics for Sports Information.

Duties & Responsibilities:


The successful candidate will serve as a liaison to members of the media, produce media guides (design, layout, writing, and editing), write news releases and game notes, compile statistics at athletic events, assist in maintaining the Athletics Web site, work at athletic events, and assist with office management.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of University, Sun Belt Conference and NCAA rules and procedures. Proficiency in written and oral communications. Strong knowledge of sports. Computer knowledge and proficiency in Quark, Photoshop, and StatCrew software.

General Days/Hours:

Generally M-F 8-5 with some nights, weekends and holidays.

Other:

The assistant director of sports information has daily contact with athletics personnel, the media, the community, and frequent contact with students and institutional administrative personnel. The successful candidate will be available to travel with teams and work nights, weekends, and holidays, as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must have a bachelor's degree with a major in journalism, public relations, or a related field and at least one year of experience in journalism, public relations, or publications involving athletic activities.

Candidates must have strong written and oral communication skills, along with a basic knowledge of sports. Candidates must have computer knowledge (MacIntosh and PC) and proficiency in Quark, Photoshop, and StatCrew software.
