Professional Experience/ Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in communications, public relations, creative content, or a position with similar duties and/or skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to balance multiple projects.
• Previous experience managing social media and comfortable shooting and editing video.
• Knowledge and familiarity with the NCAA is needed.
• Basic knowledge of or familiarity with Colgate University and its 25 varsity programs, along with an understanding of various statistics platforms such as Stat Crew and Genius Sports is important.
• Proficiency in content publishing software (Adobe Creative Cloud).
• Understanding commitment to University, League, and NCAA regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's degree or equivalent experience with at least two (2) years in communications, public relations, creative content, or a position with similar duties and/or skills.
• Lead communications contact for specific sports, working with different coaches.
• Advanced level of experience managing social media and familiarity with shooting/editing video.
• Moderate to advanced level of expertise in creative software (Adobe Creative Cloud), photography.
Education: A Bachelors degree is required.
Certifications: A current valid driver's license, in accordance with the University's Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Use Policy is required.

Department Statement: The assistant director of communications and creative media assists in telling the Colgate story with clarity and consistency in order to build awareness, attract the best students, faculty, and staff, and foster lasting relationships through communications, creative content production, and student-athlete promotion. This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt position that plays a crucial role in enhancing the visibility and reputation of Colgate athletics.
Accountabilities: Reporting to the director of athletics communications, the assistant director will be responsible for capturing and creating athletics content, maintaining the athletics website, composing press releases, and managing social media accounts, among other duties. The role requires a blend of creativity, communication skills, and a passion for athletics, making it an exciting opportunity for individuals looking to make a significant impact in the field of sports communications and creative media.
• Assist in developing and executing overall communication strategy for assigned sports, fitting within the broader context of Colgate's University-wide communications strategy.
• Maintain the athletics website through roster updates, information, scheduling updates, etc. (20%)
• Compose press releases, game previews, game recaps, feature stories. Set up live stats, author game notes, and produce other design flyers and printed materials. (20%)
• Craft creative content, utilizing photography, videography, and graphic design skills for assigned sports. Watch live athletic events and publish social media posts during the events. (20%)
• Communicate with media, coaches and representatives from other universities on gameday. (10%)
• Update digital page designs, flyers, statistics records. (10%)
• Attend planning meetings, brainstorming, collaboration with coworkers, etc. (10%)
• Email communication with other universities, conference office, etc. (10%) This position requires frequent work outside of traditional office hours, including but not limited to evenings and weekends. This position will frequently travel with an assigned sport in addition to postseason events. A valid driver's license is also required.
