Job Description
The Assistant Director of Career Services and Internship Program Manager is responsible for leading Sarah Lawrence s internship programs and delivering career services to students and alumni ensuring alignment between their academic pursuits and professional goals. The Assistant Director builds and maintains relationships with employers, alumni, and faculty to expand opportunities for internships and employment, promoting career readiness in the liberal arts environment. Reporting to the Director of Career Services, this role supports students throughout their professional journeys, contributing to the College s mission of integrating experiential learning with academic development.

Essential Duties Summary
Essential Functions
  • Provide individualized career advising on topics including resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation, career exploration, and networking for students and alumni.
  • Develop and manage internship programs, collaborating with employers, alumni, and faculty to offer meaningful experiential learning opportunities.
  • Serve as a liaison with academic departments to oversee the integration of internships into academic curricula and manage student internship placements
  • Manage donor-funded internship initiatives, including summer funding and travel stipends, and prepare reports for donors and stakeholders.
  • Plan, develop, and deliver workshops, alumni panels, networking events, and site visits to support career readiness and professional development.
  • Oversee and execute targeted marketing strategies to promote internship and career programs through social media campaigns, newsletters, and email communications.
  • Monitor and analyze data related to student participation in internships and career services programs, contributing to annual reports and departmental assessments.


Additional Responsibilities
  • Produce content for weekly newsletters and other communications to promote internship opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Pre-Health Advisor on Allied Health Career Panel.
  • Collaborate with campus partners, including Alumni Relations, Advancement, and academic departments, to expand internship and employment opportunities.
  • Engage with SLC EmbeddEd and other academic initiatives to align experiential learning programs with broader educational goals.
  • Participate in professional development activities to stay informed about trends and best practices in career services and experiential education.
  • Represent Career Services at campus-wide events, including orientations, admitted student programs, and career fairs, to promote career development resources to students and families.
  • Supervise the Graduate Student Career Assistant, providing guidance and support in delivering peer engagement activities and administrative tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Physical and Cognitive Requirements
  • Primarily sedentary, involving extended periods of sitting and significant computer use.
  • Frequent verbal and written communication required.
  • Capacity to organize and synthesize detailed information.
  • Occasional walking/standing required.


Required Qualifications

  • Master s degree in a related field.
  • A minimum of 2 4 years of experience in career services, higher education, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement career programs and internship initiatives.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with experience engaging diverse stakeholders, including students, alumni, and employers.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Experience collaborating with faculty and staff on interdisciplinary initiatives.

  • Experience working within a liberal arts college environment.
  • Knowledge of trends in experiential education and internship management.
  • Familiarity with career services tools and platforms such as Handshake and LinkedIn.
