Assistant Digital Media Designer

Location: Washington, D.C.Job Type: ContractCompensation Range: $25 - 29 per hourClient is seeking a detail-oriented Assistant Designer to join our creative team. This role requires versatility across digital platforms and multiple print products, ensuring our publications maintain the highest standards of design and storytelling. The Assistant Designer will collaborate closely with graphics, cartography, interactive, photography, and special publications teams to craft compelling and visually engaging content.We are looking for a designer with strong creative instincts, a sharp eye for typography, and a passion for innovative storytelling-whether through bespoke print layouts or immersive digital experiences. Candidates should have a foundation in editorial design or user experience, with a keen understanding of how design enhances narrative content.Responsibilities:Conceptualize, design, and produce layouts for their magazine, Bookazines, special issues, Kids, and Little Kids, as well as interactive storytelling projects.Commission and art direct illustrators, collaborating closely with editorial, photography, and creative teams.Work with production teams to ensure color proofing, preflight, and print release processes are seamless.Maintain effective communication with managers, peers, and stakeholders to uphold creative excellence and best practices.Support design managers in maintaining production schedules and workflow efficiency.Qualifications:2+ years of experience in design, user experience, or content-driven visual storytelling.Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).Familiarity with digital storytelling and UX design.Strong sense of typography, layout, and visual hierarchy.Strategic thinker with a solutions-based mindset and problem-solving skills.Excellent communication and collaboration skills.Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work independently.A portfolio showcasing design work and creative storytelling applications.Preferred Qualifications:Experience in editorial design or publishing.Digital/UX expertise, including familiarity with Figma.JOBID: Opportunity Employer: Race, Color, Religion, Sex, Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, National Origin, Age, Genetic Information, Disability, Protected Veteran Status, or any other legally protected group status.At Cella, a randstad digital company, we welcome people of all abilities and want to ensure that our hiring and interview process meets the needs of all applicants.
