The Assistant Dean of Finance and Administration serves as a strategic leader and key advisor, providing oversight of financial planning, budget management, and administrative operations for the academic unit. This role is integral to strategic planning, budgeting, and financial analysis in support of the organization's mission and long-term goals. The Assistant Dean is a results-driven leader with strong communication skills who fosters collaboration across departments and ensures operational effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage the annual budget, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and financial sustainability.
- Provide high-level financial analysis, forecasting, and reporting to support data-driven decision making.
- Oversee administrative operations, including human resources, finance, facilities, and IT services.
- Ensure compliance with institutional policies, state and federal regulations ensuring proper financial oversight and reporting.,
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and university leadership to optimize resource allocation and operational efficiency.
- Lead initiatives to enhance financial stewardship, cost-effectiveness, and revenue generation.
- Supervise and mentor finance and administrative staff, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Oversee grant and contract management funding, endowments, and revenue-generating initiatives, ensuring compliance with institutional and federal guidelines.
- Lead long-term financial planning and resource allocation to enhance academic and research excellence.
- Serve as a liaison with central administration, external auditors, and funding agencies.
- Contribute to strategic planning efforts, policy development, and long-term financial sustainability strategies.

Leadership and Communication:
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the Dean, faculty, and staff, providing clear and transparent financial guidance.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and professional development across administrative and academic units.
- Communicate complex financial and operational information to diverse stakeholders, including faculty, researchers, and university executives.
- Represent the college in university-wide financial and administrative committees, advocating for the needs and priorities of the unit.
- Leads biweekly and monthly staff meetings, fostering collaboration and ensuring alignment with college goals. Participate in various university-wide meetings, representing the College's interests. Following these meetings, reports key information and updates back to senior leadership and other stakeholders to ensure transparency and informed decision-making.

Physical Demands:
Sedentary work performed in an office environment. Regularly required to travel to meetings, events, etc. both on and off campus. Ability to travel both on and off campus, domestic and international. Regularly required to communicate and exchange information and to use technology/devices. Ability to attend events, meetings, trainings after normal business hours. Ability to manage multiple priorities and competing demands.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Twelve (12) years of professional experience in financial planning, budget management, or academic administrative operations. Six (6) years of experience supervising or managing professional staff.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Knowledge of organizational and unit performance measures.

Knowledge of the impact and implications of decisions on leadership objectives.

Skill in oral and written communication.

Skill in data analytics and negotiation.

Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Suite products.

Ability to research information and analyze complex data and information to create reports and presentations.

Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion.

Ability to develop and administer new policies and procedures.

Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.

Additional Job Details

Preferences:

Master's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Experience with the University System of Maryland
Experience with Workday, Finance and Adaptive Planning
Experience with a State/Public Institute of Higher Education
