Pay Range Information:Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate's qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.
Job Description Summary:Reporting to the Dean of the Fowler School of Law, the Assistant Dean for Administration provides leadership and strategic direction for the administrative operations of the Fowler School of Law. The incumbent provides direct oversight of the law school's facilities, business, and personnel operations, including the supervision of staff in the Dean's Office, student services, and faculty assistants. The Assistant Dean is a member of the Dean's senior management team.
Responsibilities:- Provide leadership for administrative operations areas of the law school and build a strong operational infrastructure to distinguish Fowler School of Law.
- Actively oversee programs and activities in order to evaluate efficiency and improve services
- Serve as Dean's advisor for budget management and long-range strategic planning.
- Oversee management of operating budgets.
- Participate in the preparation of fiscal, statistical and other reports.
- Supervise Director of Finance and Finance/Operations Team.
- Develop and implement policies to improve oversight of spending and strategic use of financial resources
- Collaborate with members of the senior management team to coordinate synchronized efforts in meeting student enrollment, retention, achievement, graduation and career placement goals
- Be responsible for hiring, supervision, training, and evaluation of assigned administrators and staff; provide oversight for administrative processes related to hiring of faculty
- Ensure compliance with ABA administrative accreditation standards; assist with required reporting for accreditation agencies, including the ABA, AALS, and California State Bar
- Be responsible for administrative operations and efficient oversight for delivery of special events and programs (except law school commencement and new student orientation), including symposia and annual staff awards and recognition events; supervise Dean of Students
- Lead new strategic initiatives as assigned
- Work with the law school's law journals and competition teams to ensure administrative compliance and support
- Provide administrative support for interdisciplinary initiatives between the Fowler School of Law and other colleges/schools
- Serve as law school liaison to various University administrative departments, including University Advancement, Financial Services, and the Office of Investments
- Oversee maintenance of the law school facility; supervise the planning and delivery of special projects
- Oversee law school calendar and faculty support services
- Serve on law school or University committees, task forces, or project teams as assigned
Required Qualifications:- A minimum of seven years of relevant experience in managing budgets, people and operations
- Understanding of higher education administration and leadership
- Understanding of student learning processes
- Demonstrated skill in examining and updating operations and procedures, formulating policy and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures
- Skill in budget preparation, fiscal management and projections
- Demonstrated written and oral communication skills and the ability to innovate and problem solve
- Strong interpersonal skills to work with diverse groups at all organizational levels, both inside and outside the University
- Knowledge of human resources concepts, practices, policies and procedures

- Demonstrated leadership skills and experience in working together with other team members to devise, analyze, modify, implement and evaluate programs, materials, procedures, etc.

- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality; demonstrate tact and diplomacy; demonstrated ability to ensure integrity and professionalism of subordinate staff
Desired Qualifications:- JD from an ABA-accredited institution, Masters of Business Administration, CPA license, or other relevant advanced degree
- Prior experience in evaluating operations, identifying gaps, and providing successful solutions
- Ability to develop, plan, and implement short and long range goals and assess and evaluate programs; project management (PMP) certification or experience
- Ability to exercise independent judgement to conceptualize, communicate, coordinate and implement complex activities and projects
- Demonstrated mediation and conflict management skills
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
- Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures
- Ability to plan, coordinate and execute logistics for events and activities
