Job Description:
The Assistant Controller is responsible for the College's general accounting, grant accounting and fixed asset accounting. The position provides assurance that all funds are deposited in a timely and efficient manner and expenditures are properly recorded. The Assistant Controller is responsible for the supervision of the Accounts Payable staff and Grants Specialist.
Essential Duties:
Responsible for the timely closing of financial records at year end, preparation of Financial Statements and enrollment information for audit.
Responsible for reviewing College financial information for accuracy, prepares journal entries as required.
Prepares financial reports as requested by the Vice President for Finance and/or Administration and the Controller.
Review expenditures of capital projects and prepare voucher to Somerset County and the State of New Jersey.
Responsible for the oversight of timely reporting of grant reports to Federal, State and local agencies.
Reviews and develops internal accounting controls and operational procedures to be approved by the Controller.
Initiate and coordinate implementation of a fixed asset module.
Oversee maintenance of fixed asset and depreciation recording.
Interacts with the Director of Financial Aid to reconcile student financial aid.
Responsible for the administration and rollforward of all fund balances.
Responsible for the maintenance of the College's chart of accounts.
In absence of Controller oversee department management.
Performs related duties as assigned by the Controller and Vice President of Finance & Facilities.
Requirements:
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in accounting or business management required.
Must exhibit demonstrable expertise in accounting principles and systems.
At least five years of experience as a Senior Accountant or higher capacity required.
Experience with computerized financial systems also required.
Must exhibit fair and courteous behavior in performance of his/her duties and present a good public image as a representative of the College.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's of Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting or CPA license.
Higher Education experience, specifically experience within a Community College.
Previous experience in a Banner client server environment.
