The Assistant Controller reports to the Senior Controller. The Assistant Controller provides assistance and support to the Senior Controller in the management of the Finance Department and its personnel. Working closely with the Senior Controller, this role will handle all aspects related to the documenting and auditing of internal controls, NetSuite management, and personnel supervision. The Assistant Controller will also be responsible for reviewing with the Senior Controller ECSs financial results periodically, and for performing other ad-hoc financial analysis and projects as requested.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the Senior Controller with the preparation of the monthly financial statements.
  • Assist the Senior Controller with the establishment and maintenance of internal controls.
  • Research accounting issues for compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and research tax matters as assigned.
  • Analyze and reconcile selected general ledger accounts as determined by the Senior Controller.
  • Oversee the aging and transactions of selected balance sheet accounts as assigned.
  • Prepare the invoicing of various agency-wide expenditures and the monitoring of these accounts.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial forecasts and projections.
  • Collaborate with the CFO, Senior Controller and Affiliate Accounting Manager with management and reviews of Affiliates Financial reporting.
  • Assist the Senior Controller in the preparation of documentation for annual external audits.
  • Conduct periodic counts of the petty cash funds throughout the agency and resolve any issues.
  • Assist the Senior Controller in the preparation of the weekly bank deposit.
  • Assist the Senior Controller in the monitoring of monthly insurance and employee benefit payments.
  • Perform ad hoc projects and other duties as assigned by the Senior Controller and CFO in a timely and complete manner.
  • Assist the Senior Controller in the training and development of finance personnel.
  • In partnership with the Senior Controller, create strategies and benchmarks for the finance department.
  • Thought partner with Human Resources regarding initiatives and processes relating to payroll or union matters.
  • Supervise, lead and support the Affiliate Accounting Manager and Senior Accountant.

JOB SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree required in accounting, finance, business administration or related field.
  • A minimum of five years of work experience in finance, accounting or business operations; previous experience in a non-profit organization desirable.
  • Certified Public Accountant license or 2-4 years of public accounting experience required.
  • Minimum intermediate computer skills, including MS Office applications and prior ERP knowledge.
  • NetSuite experience a major plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and can effectively collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Proactive and highly organized with meticulous attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Ability to prioritize effectively and consistently meet deadlines while maintaining the highest of standards.
  • Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills, with a focus on improving processes and driving efficiencies.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven and growth-oriented environment, while maintaining a positive approach.
  • Works well independently, as well as part of a team.
  • Will honor and abide by ECS rules and regulations, including discretion and confidentiality.
  • High comfort in working with people from diverse backgrounds and experience.
  • Passion for ECSs mission and its organizational values.
  • At least 5 years of leadership experiencing supervising staff to include: selection of staff, training, development, performance evaluations, progressive discipline, taking appropriate disciplinary action and knowing when to partner with Senior Leadership and Human Resources.
