The Role: Assistant Controller
Our client is seeking an Assistant Controller who is motivated to advance rapidly in their career and accept greater responsibilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for executing a broad range of accounting, management and financial duties, with a significant emphasis on financial planning and accounting. This role requires strong analytical skills and operational finance expertise, along with a solid foundation in accounting principles. Key responsibilities include monthly accounting closings, preparation of financial statements and cash flow management.
Reporting to the Controller, this individual will play a critical role in maintaining financial integrity, ensuring accurate and timely reporting across multiple entities and supporting the organization's overall financial health. Additionally, this role will assist in optimizing financial systems to improve efficiency, enhance reporting accuracy and provide leadership with better decision support capabilities.
Ongoing responsibilities will include:
- Managing monthly closing of accounting records
- Preparation and review of monthly financial statements
- Monitoring weekly cash flow and projected cash requirements
- Monitoring actual and projected future costs of proposed real estate developments
- Preparing and issuing monthly invoices for management fees and labor charges related to property oversight and maintenance services.
- Generating weekly time utilization reports to track and analyze resource allocation across business operations.
- Downloading and compiling sales data on a daily and weekly basis for financial recording and reconciliation.
- Preparing and submitting monthly construction requisitions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to contract terms.
- Preparing annual budgets across multiple business units, including real estate, construction and service-based operations.
- Evaluating monthly performance in comparison to budgets
Candidate Profile & Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have at least seven years of accounting experience, preferably within a multi-entity environment. A background in public accounting, real estate, construction or property management is a plus. This individual must be highly organized, detail-oriented and possess strong financial accounting skills. Additionally, the candidate should have experience with and be an advocate for leveraging technology to enhance accounting and financial processes. They will play a key role in optimizing financial systems, improving reporting capabilities and driving efficiency through the implementation of new technologies. Strong analytical abilities, communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving are essential. This individual must be able to manage multiple responsibilities efficiently and thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment while ensuring operational excellence.
