We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join a dynamic team. As a key player in this organization, you will be responsible for managing the financial records and reports for multiple commercial properties, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.


The ideal candidate will have recent Public and/or Real Estate accounting experience as this hire will play a vital role in preparing and leading a team in charge of monthly financial statements, reconciling accounts, and providing insightful financial analysis.


One's ability to work collaboratively with property managers, vendors, and an internal finance team will be crucial to the overall success of the company. Additionally, you will take the lead on special projects related to financial reporting and accounting systems improvement, helping to drive our organization's strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements for assigned properties
  • Develop and lead a team of Jr. and Sr. level Accountants
  • Conduct monthly reconciliations of bank accounts and property-level financial accounts
  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures for real estate management
  • Analyze property operating budgets versus actual performance and provide variance explanations
  • Assist with the annual property budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Collaborate with property management teams to provide financial insights and recommendations
  • Support internal and external audit processes by providing required documentation and reports

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and applicable accounting frameworks for property management
  • Proficient in accounting software with advanced spreadsheet capabilities
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team
