2025-26 School Year. Season=August-April
Start date for this coaching position is August 12, 2025.
RSD contracted teacher will be paid a stipend.
RSD hourly employee will be paid same stipend amount but at an hourly rate.
Non RSD staff will be paid same stipend but at an hourly rate.
ROCKWOOD SCHOOL DISTRICTJOB DESCRIPTIONPOSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Robotics coach will mentor, guide, and support students in their robotics pursuits by fostering personal growth, teamwork, and skill development.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Provide supervision of students during all aspects of the program, including after school and on some weekends
- Empower and inspire the students to effectively manage and participate in the program, according to the mission, vision, and values of FIRST
- Provide instruction and feedback about the team dynamic and performance
- Help find resources for the students
- Foster team cohesion
- Lead the team in delegating responsibilities, including builders, coders, notebooks, Outreach, fundraising, etc.
- Order supplies and maintain a budget
- Help Head Coach plan competitions and contests, including out-of-season activities
- Collaborate and communicate with school administration, parents, and the FIRST organization
- Find opportunities for the students to participate in local events that promote Robotics (STEM Nights, Open House, etc.)
- Ensure compliance with guidelines and regulations
- Promote sportsmanship and character development in an encouraging and inclusive environment
- Proactively communicate schedules and information to parents and administration
- Coaches and sponsors must adhere to the standards of conduct outlined in District Form 5002 Code of Conduct- Coaches, Sponsors, and Chaperones. It is important for all coaches and sponsors to understand that this list is not exhaustive. It is intended to provide specific, but not exclusive, examples of the standards of conduct that are appropriate for persons who coach and sponsor student activities.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: - Has knowledge and experience (or be willing to learn about) in the sport or activity ( robotics experience is not required)
- Must possess leadership and organization skills, and be able to set an example for the participants.
- Effective communication skills to inspire participants and work with them on improvement.
- Must be available to work some nights, evenings, and weekends, and be prepared to work in bad weather, and be willing to travel with the team to different locations for competitions.
- Must attend the Kick-Off event in September, the Rockwood Scrimmage in November, and all of the Meets and Tournaments, including the regional and world championships (if applicable).
- Help plan or find out-of-season external outreach opportunities.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS: - Some teaching experience
- Clean criminal and child abuse and neglect records check
- High School Graduate 2 or more years prior
EQUIPMENT USED: - Standard office equipment
- Robotics equipment ( training can be provided)
WORK ENVIRONMENT: - Duties will require the employee to sit, talk, hear, walk, stand, see, and reach.
- Duties will require the ability to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
- Duties will require working non-traditional hours including some evenings and weekends
