FUNDED BY:PRIMARY PURPOSE: Assist providing leadership for the total athletic program at assigned campus and its feeder schools. Assist providing instruction and coach students to develop skills and ability to excel in sport(s) assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification: - Bachelor's Degree
- Texas Teaching Certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills: - General knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures
- General knowledge in directing athletic events
- Knowledge of UIL rules and procedures
- Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience: - 3 years coaching experience preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Instructional Management - Assist using a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in the sport(s) assigned.
- Assist managing and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.
- Assist working with other members of school staff to plan and put in place instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student athletes.
- Assist demonstrating knowledge of instructional strategies and teaching techniques for assigned sport(s).
Program Management - Assist recognizing program accomplishments and give credit and recognition to the individual group, or staff of coaches that is responsible.
- Assist promoting and fostering school pride.
- Assist working with principal, campus coordinator and athletic director to schedule competition and coordinate arrangements.
- Assist monitoring and enforcing student eligibility.
- Assist keeping informed of and ensure compliance with UIL rules.
- Assist taking all necessary precaution to protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Student Management - Assist instructing and advising students on NCAA regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarship and recruiting practices.
- Assist applying and enforcing student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and trips off school property in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and Student Handbook.
- Assist maintaining a quality program for monitoring the academic progress of the student athlete.
- Assist creating a positive environment that enhances the sense of self worth, pride, and dignity in the student athletes.
Communication - Assist establishing and maintaining open communication by conducting conference with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
- Assist briefing administrators in a timely manner of unique items and issues.
Administration - Maintaining and filing all reports, records, and other documents required.
- Assist maintaining a current inventory of all fixed assets within the program.
- Assist overseeing processes of cleaning, repairing, and storing all campus athletic equipment.
- Assist following district procedures on injuries and insurance of athletes.
Professional Growth and Development - Assist setting goals that are a reflection of past evaluations.
- Assist participating actively in professional organizations and associations.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist supervising and evaluate the performance of assistant coaches.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands - Assist maintaining emotional control under stress
Physical Demands - Assist continually walking and standing
- Assist moderating lifting and carrying; stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching
Environmental Demands - Assist working outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather) and inside.
- Assist with frequent districtwide and statewide travel
- Assist with frequent prolonged and irregular hours
The State Board for Educator Certification will require all first time applicants for an initial credential to be fingerprinted as part of a national criminal background check. A cost of up to $49. 00 will be charged for fingerprinting.
