Duties and Responsibilities (Denotes Essential Functions)
- Serves as Assistant Bookstore Manager at various stores. Assists in managing the daily operations of the bookstore. Work may include evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
- Responsible for keeping accurate cash counts and controls, reconciling daily sales activity and recording daily sales deposits. Work with manager on any discrepancies in a timely manner.
- May be assigned to a specific bookstore or may rotate to bookstores at various campuses within the UH Bookstore System. Meetings and training may be held at various locations.
- Assists faculty with placing textbook orders on a timely basis. Ensures that faculty members are kept advised of the status of their textbook order requests. Aid with the setup of IDAP materials.
- Follows up on delinquent book orders, damaged books, and delays in shipments. Assists the Bookstore Manager with problem resolution. Aids with timely return of unsold textbooks to publishers and wholesalers.
- Assists with inventory and sales floor. Ensures timely return of unsold textbooks to publishers. Ensures proper maintenance of shelf stock levels. Supervises the flow of stock replenishment.
- Monitors outgoing merchandise shipments. Assists with all freight, US mail, UPS, and Federal Express Shipments. Ensures that proper records are maintained, and proper procedures and regulations are followed.
- Assists in the preparation, pricing, and placement of incoming merchandise and properly displaying merchandise on sales floor. Assists in maintaining an effective floor and fixture plan. Responsible for attractive appearance, cleanliness, and neatness of the sales floor and storage areas.
- Assists with special programs and projects with other employees, department managers, and branch bookstore managers. Coordinates the efforts of clerical staff and student assistants.
- Assists student with procuring/assessing their course materials and school supplies.
- May assist with training and supervision of student assistants, temporary employees, and clerical staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications - Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Social Science, Arts and Humanities, Education, or related field and 0 year of progressively responsible professional experience, or any equivalent combination or education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated.
- Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in business administration or related field.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible cases and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in business administration or related field.
- Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.
- Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
- Demonstrated ability to organize work and meet deadlines under strict time constraints.
- Ability to work beyond normal hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Ability to travel and work at the various campus bookstores around the state, including the neighbor islands, for an extended period of time.
Desirable Qualifications 1. Some experience in retail in a post-secondary educational bookstore or library.
2. Experience with computerized inventory or database systems and cash register systems.
