JOB SUMMARY: Bishop McNamara High School is a private, Catholic co-educational high school in the Holy Cross tradition, offering its students a challenging college preparatory curriculum and a complete range of athletics and activities. The school is located in Forestville, Maryland, about 10 minutes from Washington, D.C.
Bishop McNamara High School has an opening to join the athletics department. This is a full time, 12 month position. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will work with the Head Athletic Trainer to coordinate and administer a comprehensive health care program for all student athletes.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Provides injury prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of all school sponsored athletic related injuries
- Develops a plan for emergency health care of injured athletes
- Attends athletic practices and games; some travel may be required
- Renders on-site decisions, in the absence of a physician, on the playing status of a player
- Counsels coaches on athlete return to play
- Advises athletes and their parents in seeking proper medical assistance for follow-up care
- Maintains accurate medical records for all athletes, to include, but not limited to, athletic physicals, injury reports, treatments rendered, physician referrals and recommendations, etc.
- Maintains supplies and equipment for the department and ensures that they are in their proper location for use
- Supervises athletes in the athletic training room
- Manage athletic trainer student aides and graduate athletic training student interns as assigned
- Assists staff in selection and fitting of equipment
- Conducts in-service programs for the coaching staff in the care and prevention of athletic injuries
- Ensures current CPR and First Aid certification of all coaches through class instruction when necessary
- Assists administrators, coaches, and game officials in decisions regarding playing surface and atmospheric conditions relating to player safety
- Performs other related work as assigned
- Abides by and enforces the policies and procedures regarding sports medicine as dictated by the school and Washington Catholic Athletic Conference

- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, administrators, and medical personnel to ensure that proper methods are used in prevention and treatment of injuries
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: - Master's degree from an accredited athletic training education program
- Experience working with adolescents in an educational setting preferred
- Teaching experience and/or willingness to teach in the classroom ideal
CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR LICENSES: - Certification by the Board of Certification for athletic trainers and maintain that association's standards and continuing education requirements
- Licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians as an Athletic Trainer or be eligible for licensure
- Certified in First Aid/CPR and be a First Aid/CPR instructor, or willing to complete the certification upon hiring
- Additional certifications in strength and conditioning (CSCS) or other athletic training related areas are encouraged
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The incumbent must be available to respond to emergencies at any time. Required work occurs during off school hours to support school activities. Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to enter data into a computer; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors, and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds; to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead.

LOCATION/TRAVEL: While Bishop McNamara High School is located in Forestville, MD, you may live anywhere in the surrounding region, and be willing to make any commute to the school. This position travels to other locations, both locally and nationally, in conjunction with role needs. This position may travel up to 30%.
