Duties and Responsibilities :The Department of Teaching, Learning and Professional Development is seeking a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the area of Elementary Education. This position is a nine month, full-time, tenure track faculty line with the opportunity for summer and winter course teaching. The position is to begin in January 2024. The candidate must be able to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching and service. Responsibilities include assisting in the development of Elementary Education and its programs in the undergraduate courses and supporting accreditation processes and reports. This position may require teaching evening and/or weekend classes in face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online formats. Other responsibilities include advising students, working with local school districts, serving on departmental and university committees, maintaining an active research agenda, fulfill service responsibilities to the department, college and university. Also support in the accreditation processes and direct committees in this area where appropriate in addition to directing graduate student research and serve on dissertation committees, and any other duties assigned pertinent to the position.

Experience:Teaching in a K-12 elementary setting for at least five years. State Licensure in Maryland or another state is required in one or more of the educational areas. Has a strong trajectory of teaching experience at the college or university level; Experience and/or interest in organizing educational opportunities for students, faculty and staff; ability to lead work groups to improve education for 21st century teaching and work collaboratively with outside partners.
Education:PhD, or EdD in the teaching field.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities :Doctorate in Education with documented evidence of experiences in curriculum development, instructional delivery or related experiences. Experience as a certified elementary teacher with at least five years of successful teaching in K-12 schools is required, with additional years of experience in teaching or K-12 leadership preferred. Successful college teaching experience in both traditional campus and online environments. Must have experience in various educational settings and knowledge of urban education; must also be knowledgeable about education procedures, policies, and laws; proficient in the use of computer technology and culturally relevant pedagogies; current literature and research in the fields and classroom assessment practices; ongoing involvement in professional organizations and activities; the ability to maintain effective working relationships with colleagues internally and externally; must demonstrate the ability to work with various diverse student populations and diversity issues that are a challenge in school systems and communities as well as have worked in the area of Education. This position may require the faculty to also support both the undergraduate as well as the graduate programs.
