Job Summary/Basic Function:

About This Role:
The Assistant Professor of Drawing will teach drawing classes of all levels, including life drawing, advanced drawing, and select illustration and foundations design courses. Candidates should be familiar with both traditional and digital media and with using and teaching industry standard software, including Adobe Creative Cloud apps and Macintosh platforms. Duties include some advising; serving on student thesis committees; collaborating with faulty to provide leadership in curricula, recruitment and retention activities, equipment and facilities development for undergraduate programs; foundation success team; serving on department, college and university committees; and other responsibilities as assigned by the department chair.

Key Competencies:
  • Ability to teach all levels drawing, including foundation classes and life drawing with an emphasis in anatomy; use of industry standard software, including Adobe Creative Cloud apps and knowledge of Macintosh platforms; ability to collaborate with faculty on curricula, recruiting, and student retention activities. Commitment to mentoring students for classroom, campus, and professional success.

Physical Requirements:
  • Able to lift 40 pounds, bending, stooping, squatting, stair climbing, and walking between buildings.

Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience):

  • MFA in Studio Art, Drawing; Illustration; or related field
  • Ability to teach all levels of drawing

Preferred Qualifications (Education & Experience):

  • Record of professional and creative accomplishment in drawing; ability to teach all levels drawing, including figure/anatomy; ability to teach select illustration and foundations courses; ability to teach in both traditional and digital media; three years of teaching experience in courses listed or related courses.
