As the Assistant Accounting Officer, you will actively support the agency's accounting operations, including report production, contract billing, and maintaining accounting records and controls to mitigate risk. You will collaborate to enhance the accuracy of financial statements and provide direction to accounting staff alongside the Chief Accounting Officer. As the Assistant Accounting Officer, you will assist in coordinating audits, ensure auditors have the necessary information, and provide guidance on local, state, and federal tax laws and business regulations to ensure the agency operates within proper parameters.

The Assistant Accounting Officer will:

Work cooperatively with the Director of Business Management and Chief Accounting Officer on accounting and tax implications for business decisions.
Assist in reviewing documentation and contracts to improve internal controls.
Assist with quarterly financial reporting, including drafting, reviewing, and ensuring quality.
Assist in managing transaction accounting, SOX, the closing process, and other financial controls.
Assist in General Ledger functions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
Assist in tax compliance and strategy and manages capital assets.
Maintain understanding of the Agency's accounting systems and management information needs.
Complete daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting tasks as directed.
Work closely with Older Americans Act program to learn billing and reconciliation process.
Prepare and distribute funding requests and reports.
Prepare journal vouchers for adjusting and correcting accounting records.
Reconcile all bank accounts monthly.
Perform internal audits to verify accuracy and compliance, and compiles audit findings and recommendations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelors degree in accounting or finance.
Experience in nonprofit accounting preferred.
3 years of experience in a financial leadership position preferred.
Experience managing finance and accounting functions.
Understanding of tax regulations and compliance.
Proficiency in technical research.
Strong proficiency in Excel and fiscal accounting software.
Experience with MIP accounting system preferred but not required.
Strong communication and writing skills.
