Educational and Experience Requirement:

Bachelor's degree in related field. Two years of experience in academic advising, customer service, administrative experience or experience in a related field. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

Position is 100% remote.

Nature & Purpose of Position:

Serves as Assistant Academic Advisor to students. Helps design programs relevant to students in their academic pursuits.

Primary Responsibilities:

Advises enrolled and prospective students regarding their academic program and curriculum requirements for their program of choice. Maintains student files throughout their academic career and make changes to records as necessary. Provides academic advice and student support to various populations, including students with academic issues. Provides retention advice to students on probation. Assists with coordinating orientation sessions for groups of incoming new students. Analyze and process degree plans and degree exceptions. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Position is 100% remote.

Full Time - Remote; must secure workspace and maintain FERPA compliance. Employees are not permitted to work in public, unsecured workspaces (e.g., coffee shops, public airspaces).

Advisor will maintain a regular, fixed schedule based on the institution's needs and as approved by departmental leadership. All appointments and correspondence, across the institution and with students, will be in a digital/internet-based format (e.g., Zoom, official SHSU email, instant messenger, phone) as this position will not hold in-person advising sessions.

Employee will be responsible for providing all work-related materials for job functions as a stipend will not be granted to purchase items needed to complete their job functions. Employee is responsible for providing all work-related materials including, but not limited to:

Printer
Scanner
Stable, secure internet connection
Headset (optional)
Office supplies (e.g., pens, paper, paperclips, highlighters)

Advisor is responsible for ensuring workstation remains undisturbed and is FERPA compliant in order to maintain a positive relationship with their students. The primary communication with the university, advising office, students, college partners, etc. will be through email, phone calls, Zoom, and online submissions of digital forms.

Regular contact with students, parents, faculty, and staff.

This position may be designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).
