Job Description

Savannah River National Laboratory is seeking an Applied Science Professional Intern in a Research Environment (ASPIRE) candidate to assist the Cyber Security operations team at the lab. The selected candidate will assist and work with authenticators for standalone computers so they can use multi-factor authentication. The ability to research and gain an understanding of Near-Field Communication (NFC), token-based authentication, and the understanding of scientific equipment like PC Controllers is beneficial. This candidate will be expected to produce documentation that field personnel can use to authenticate and use this technology. A sound understanding of cyber security protocols, in particular the use of best practices like multi-factor authentication is desirable. The Qualified individual must be pursuing, at a minimum, an associate's degree in applied science or computer science discipline.

The intern will assist with streamlining processes related to multi-factor authentication techniques for computer systems that operate "off the network."

The ideal candidate will utilize technology-enhanced methodologies to drive efficiency related to cyber authentication techniques. In particular, they will be implementing token-based authentication that do not require the use of username and password. Proficiency in computer hardware and software as well as an understanding of computer systems and connected components is needed.

Responsibilities

ASPIRE Intern Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be working with a growing cyber operations team. This project will be an ongoing necessity to keep all the security methodologies current and validate that SRNL is meeting all DOE security requirements. Job Functions to include:
  • Assisting the cyber security operation team in the testing and implementation of the MFA techniques for systems that are housed in scientific laboratories.
  • Developing and maintaining documentation.
  • Identifying, reviewing, and providing analysis and recommendations to meet requirements.
  • Troubleshoot errors at the operating system level.
  • Connect and add components to various computer equipment and operating systems
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Pursuing an associate or bachelor's degree in computer science or cyber security with a US citizenship status (with a minimum of 0-2 years of experience).
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and research new technologies.
  • U.S. Citizen
Preferred Skills:
  • Solid understanding of computer hardware, software, operating system, and related components.
  • Some knowledge of networking technologies.
  • Some programming experience, or experience installing software packages.
