The Position

Recreation Leaders (II) in the Arts Division are responsible for coordinating and leading in arts activities, programs and services at a variety of City facilities, which may include the Community Center, Pacific View Arts Center, Encinitas Library, and City parks and beaches. Work schedule may vary including working evenings and weekends.

Recreation Leader is a part-time, temporary position. Incumbents work less than 999 a year. Work schedules may vary and incumbents may be required to work weekends and evenings.

Examples of Important & Essential Duties (included but not limited to)
  • Provide general assistance to the public
  • Work with community groups and organizations
  • Assist in the recruitment, training, and coordination of volunteers
  • Assist with arts programs, activities, and events for variety of ages at different facilities
  • Lead, conduct, organize, and assist with arts activities and programs
  • Prepare, maintain and/or clean up City facilities and equipment for arts activities, programs, and services
  • Issue, collect and organize arts equipment and supplies for arts activities, programs, and services
  • Perform a variety of general and routine administrative tasks in support of arts programs, including data entry registration using software related to assigned functions and modern office equipment
  • Maintain records, forms and documentation on assigned activities and services
  • Assist with marketing and promotions
  • Develop flyers, correspondence, and reports for arts activities and services
  • Photograph and record video of arts programs and events
  • Use City vehicles to run errands, including pick up/delivery of program and event supplies, hanging promotional banners/signs on approved City locations, and placing event signage such as temporary no park notices
  • Direct the program use and care of assigned facilities, equipment and materials
  • Enforce established rules, policies and procedures at City facilities and programs/events
  • Customer service principles.

Minimum Qualifications

Training and Experience (position requirements at entry):
At least 18 years of age plus two years of increasingly responsible recreational activities and services experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Experience in the specific area of assignment is desirable
