The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.
Supports the Spaceflight Processing Department's engineering function. Provides technical leadership for SLS/Orion Arms and Umbilical's subsystems (AUS), including technical procedure development and operational support.
Responsibilities Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:
- Attain system certifications for system and console operations, ultimately to operate AUS system console for vehicle tank fill, drain and launch operations. Perform technical oversight of new installation, construction activities to validate compliance with contract documents.
- Create and execute component and subsystem design verification/acceptance plans and test methods to validate performance to requirements. Depending on the project type, this can vary from conceptual design to revisions to existing designs and modifications to existing structures or Ground Support Equipment (GSE).
- Conduct system testing/validation, troubleshooting/investigating equipment failures and interpret analysis data/technical drawings/schematics to resolve anomalies and provide written corrective action.
- Generate procedures required to maintain equipment and systems in the prescribed condition.
- Coordinate maintenance and operations work with technicians, engineers, and safety personnel.
- Duties also include preparation of all essential system engineering documentation components required for a complete and viable system.
Responsible for planning, cost development, management, and scheduling for assigned projects.
- Interface with client representatives and manage completion of tasks on schedule and within budget to the customer's satisfaction.
- Weekend and Off-shift work will occasionally be required
Qualifications - External Bachelor of Science (BS) in Engineering or technical equivalent from an accredited institution; at least four years of experience.

- Hydraulic systems operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of mechanical statics and dynamics.
- Integration of electrical components including transducers, switches, solenoid valves, etc.
- Familiarization with the standards of ASME BPVC, ASTM, and MIL-SPEC.
- Operations with Rockwell Automation PLC (RS Logix 5000. PLC/5, Factory Talk View, etc.).
- Excellent writing, communication, presentation and customer interface skills.
- Ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment.

- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects without missing deadlines or sacrificing accuracy.
- Must be self-motivated, demonstrate initiative, and be able to work independently or with minimal supervision.
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, if necessary.
- May be required to provide guidance to less experienced engineers.
- Ability to perform root cause failure analysis to component level.
Essential Functions Physical Requirements - Will be required to climb stairs to access equipment for troubleshooting.
- Climbing ladders and platforms will be necessary.
- Will be required to wear hearing protection, eye protection and other associated personal protective equipment.
- Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing.
- Physical requirements are sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures.
- Must be able to work in tight confined space areas.
Work Environment - All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards.
- Will be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex.
- Position requires daily individual to travel to different areas on site.
- Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility.
Equipment and Machines - Cranes and other heavy equipment such as crane carriers, Hi-Rangers, man lift platforms, hydraulic lifts, spider staging, converter dollies, cargo lift trailers, and tractor/trailers.
- Operate computer terminals, personal computers, and related computer peripheral equipment to maintain/adjust database logs and records, print documents and record work performance.
- Personal computer, scanner, copy machine, telephone, laser printer, fax machine, and other office equipment including desk supplies.
Attendance - Work assignments are normally 8 hours shifts, 5 consecutive days per week.
- Must be dependable and punctual.
- Occasional overtime, sometimes with short notice, is required to meet demanding schedule
Other Essential Functions - If offered a position, proof of U.S. Citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident/Green Card holder of the United States is required.
- Needs to have clear, concise, and accurate communication skills.
- Must have ability to work well with office staff and customer representatives.
- Government security clearance may be required in the future.
- Must be able to travel to support position requirements. This may include travel to and from customer location, which may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can be made for POV, if necessary.
- Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
- Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relations with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.
- Must pass a federal background investigation.
- Must comply with all "drug free workplace" requirements as mandated by directives issued by the appropriate federal contracting officer and the company, which requires drug testing for use of illegal drugs by employees in sensitive positions.
