About Hydra Health

Hydra Health, the operating arm of Health Hospitality Partners, is rethinking the hospital gift shop by creating welcoming, modern retail spaces that serve as true amenities for employees, patients, and visitors. With a focus on wellness, convenience, and community engagement, our shops redefine the hospital retail experience with thoughtfully curated products and exceptional service.

Hydra Health

Hydra Health is seeking a full-time Area Manager to lead the phased launch and management of multiple retail concepts within HCA Centennial Hospitals in Nashville, including two wellness-focused retail stores opening in 2025 and a hospital-based café planned for 2026.

This is a highly entrepreneurial role for someone energized by building from the ground up. You'll be responsible for overseeing store openings, hiring and coaching high-performing teams, driving sales, and delivering an exceptional retail and hospitality experience. The ideal candidate brings experience in both retail and café or coffee shop operations-though we're also open to candidates with deep experience in one and a desire to grow in the other.

This is also a strategic opportunity to help spearhead Hydra Health's growth across the Southeast, beginning with Nashville and expanding into new regional markets.

Key Responsibilities

Phased Store & Café Openings

  • Lead the launch of two hospital retail stores in 2025, followed by a coffee shop/café in 2026, in partnership with Hydra Health leadership and hospital stakeholders.
  • Collaborate on layout design, merchandising, menu planning, vendor selection, and technology infrastructure.
  • Develop store-level processes, SOPs, and training systems that can scale with future growth.

Entrepreneurial Owne

  • Operate with a high level of autonomy, owning daily decision-making across hiring, service, merchandising, and performance.
  • Solve problems creatively and proactively, with minimal corporate oversight.
  • Be a brand ambassador across the hospital campus and broader Nashville community.

Leadership & Culture

  • Hire, train, and develop store and café teams that reflect Hydra Health's values of service, care, and professionalism.
  • Coach team members to meet or exceed expectations around retail KPIs such as sales per labor hour, conversion rate, UPT, and shrink.
  • Regularly visit all locations to reinforce standards and culture.

Operational Execution

  • Oversee daily operations across both retail and café environments, including scheduling, food safety, inventory management, and cleanliness.
  • Implement and manage BOPIS and mobile order fulfillment systems to ensure speed and accuracy.
  • Address customer concerns quickly and diplomatically to ensure satisfaction.

Sales & Financial Performance

  • Manage labor budgets, inventory controls, and store-level expenses to meet performance goals.
  • Use data and trend analysis to drive merchandising and promotional strategies.
  • Monitor KPIs consistently and build team accountability through coaching and development.

Stakeholder & Regional Growth Support

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with HCA Centennial leadership and campus departments.
  • Represent Hydra Health in operational planning and community initiatives.
  • Play a key role in identifying and supporting new Southeast market expansion opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 2+ years in a multi-unit leadership role or 5+ years in store/café management; experience in both retail and coffee shop operations is highly desired, though we welcome candidates with expertise in one and interest in growing in the other.
  • Entrepreneurial Mindset: Self-sufficient, solutions-oriented, and excited to help grow a brand from the inside out.
  • KPI Knowledge: Strong understanding of retail key performance indicators and experience training/coaching teams to them.
  • Operations: Hands-on management of schedules, inventory, facilities, and food safety.
  • Fulfillment: Experience with BOPIS, mobile ordering, or customer pickup flows.
  • Technology: Familiarity with POS systems (Square preferred), Google Suite, and Excel.
  • Soft Skills: Clear communicator and coachable team leader who earns trust across diverse stakeholder groups.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to kneel, bend, reach, climb, and stand for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs.
  • Reasonable accommodations will be considered per applicable law.

Transportation & Health Requirements

  • Reliable transportation required for travel across HCA TriStar Centennial's campus and future area locations.
  • Full compliance with HCA's health and vaccination policies is mandatory.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Starting salary: $65,000/year, plus the ability to earn quarterly bonuses based on performance
  • Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, and vision
  • Generous PTO package
  • Full-time, 40 hours/week, with occasional evening or weekend flexibility
