The Area Manager will be responsible for overseeing a home store while supporting in the leadership and supervision of assigned stores within their area. The primary responsibility of this role is to develop Store Managers to lead solutions in their location by getting results through others. The Area Manager will support Store Managers in achieving consistent operational excellence in all Company standards, directives and initiatives as identified by the DSM and Home Office.
Major Responsibilities and/or Essential Functions Driving Sales - KPI Rankings & Sales Results
- Business Acumen - Ability to speak to business and train SMs and Assistant Managers to speak to their business
- Selling Environment - Illustrates an ability to ensure SERVE Program is executed at all levels in the area and has had minimal customer complaints
- Strategic Goal Setting - Responds quickly to underperforming stores, creates specific plans to grow business and understands leveraging opportunities within the area
- Marketing Initiatives - Ensures all Company directives executed flawlessly and grass-roots marketing/community involvement a focus within area
- Knowledge of Competition - Takes initiative to stay abreast of news and events related to competition and communicates information as needed
Visual & Store Standards - Floor Set - Execution within home store and area consistently meets standards
- Ensures markdown execution and holds teams accountable to misses
- Visual and Housekeeping Standards - Items such as sizing, dust-free displays, organized shelves, accessory fixtures, clearance area, etc, within home store and area are maintained
- Shipment Management - Ensures store teams meet processing expectations
- Product Knowledge - New Product training, try-on sessions and other avenues to build and maintain product knowledge within the home store and area are executed consistently
Team Development - Responsible for recruiting and hiring within home store, recruiting and hire of Store Managers in area, while providing support to stores in their recruitment process
- Ensure Store Managers have properly completed training requirements in a timely manner
- Team Motivation - Creatively initiates ways to build morale and a team atmosphere within home store and area
- Partner with Human Resources and District Manager to create necessary Note to File documents for area
- Review and coach Store Managers on associate performance and behavior
- Provide training to Store Managers
- Assist in teaching and developing Store Managers to create bench strength
Operational Controls - Support Store Managers in achieving consistent operational excellence in all company standards, directives and initiatives
- Perform store operational audits during scheduled and unscheduled visits that include monitoring associate performance, store cleanliness, stock room organization, dress code adherence, etc
- Schedules - Thoroughly reviews store schedules, ensuring proper coverage at all times
- Payroll - Processes payroll and payroll adjustments per standards, controls hours within area and ensures minimal OT and payroll overages
- Store Organization - Ensures operational controls within area are maintained including backroom &wrap desk organization, banking procedures, register functions, etc.
- Supplies - Follows up on store supply needs; ensures store teams are following supply ordering procedures
- Shrink Control - Follows all LP directives and holds teams accountable for poor shrink results
- Emergency Response Management - Trains team on proper responses and protocols to emergencies
- Incident Reduction Strategy - Increase awareness security, safety, and accident prevention

Knowledge, Skills, & Experience - 4+ years prior retail management experience (Store Manager/Multi-unit management)
- Ability to travel, with occasional overnight travel required (10% may vary based on market)
- Demonstrates drive and a high level of initiative
- Willingness to be accountable; shows passion for the product and business
- Proven ability to recruit, train, coach & develop a team
- Merchandising experience required
- Exceptional interpersonal skills
- Strong knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.) and overall excellent computer skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to delegate and proven ability to prioritize initiatives and meet deadlines
- Knowledge of store operations
- Ability to apply retail math
- Excellent time management skills
- Ability to lift 30lbs, pushing, pulling, bending and stretching frequently
