Job Description Our client is a top construction and infrastructure provider operating across North America.
The Area Manager is responsible for bidding on and winning new work, project-related compliance and reporting activities, such as tracking the advancement of active projects, maintaining project schedules, analyzing weekly revenue and cost data, change management, resource allocations and overall contract compliance. This position requires analytical thinking, excellent computer skills, and a working knowledge of the water/wastewater pipeline industry. The position includes management over regional employees as well as active project management, safety mentorship and overall accountability.
Responsibilities of this position include:
- Managing and directly supervising field staff and administration functions including, but not limited to compliance, equipment maintenance and support, overall project and regional financial management, budgeting, billing, purchasing, inventory, work control, safety, contract administration, and other management activities.
- Managing overall work execution, ensuring work is completed on time and in accordance with contract specifications.
- Making decisions and recommendations regarding hiring, disciplinary actions, and promotions of employees; reviewing performance reports and rating employee performance; authorizing leaves and overtime; counseling employees on work-related problems; and exercising division authority.
- Reviewing field daily work reports.
- Addressing compliance and resolving problems in a timely manner.
- Collecting data and producing analysis of revenue, cost, manpower and labor hours.
- Analyzing project scope adherence during execution and determine variances and impact.
- Managing all contract compliance and financial issues.
- Assisting in managing vendors, project material and material inventory as needed.
- Reviewing and managing project costs for accuracy, ensuring cost transfers and corrections.
- Managing and maintaining accurate project schedules, estimates for labor, materials and other direct costs.
- Accurately reporting project performance, revenue, cost, accruals, and forecasts.
- Traveling when necessary to complete projects, with on-site presence through duration of projects.
- Ensuring Department of Transportation, Occupational Health and Safety Administration, and governmental compliance.
- Driving operational excellence by identifying process improvement opportunities and implementing strategies to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
- Serving as a liaison with clients, maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders.
- Leading a team of operational personnel to meet client objectives.
- Implementing Operations Procedures, training new operators, and providing ongoing support.
- Ensuring compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations by implementing robust safety protocols and conducting regular staff training sessions.
- Collaborating closely with the Safety Manager to ensure efficient completion of all safety training and keep detailed records of site safety requirements up to date.
- Being responsible for maintaining an open, collaborative, team-oriented work environment with peers, leaders, management, and team members.
- Ensuring the safety of all team members by conducting safety meetings and inspections and providing documentation related to all safety issues. Developing and monitoring specific metrics related to the areas and team members under your leadership.
- Coding invoices and forwarding to accounting for payment.
- Participating in company meetings.
Qualifications and skills for this position include:
- 10+ years of related experience or an equivalent (combination of education, training, experience).
- Able to read and understand project scope, efficiently use computer and company software.
- Proven leadership with the goal of optimizing operational performance.
- Proven ability to effectively manage a diverse regional team.
- Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be willing to travel as needed.
- Strong organizational skills, high level of accuracy, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must have a high level of confidentiality and a good understanding of general business practices.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities at one time.
- Proven written and verbal communications, proficient with computer applications.
- High-stress tolerance; must be able to thrive in a high-pressure environment.
- Strong analytical and "critical thinking" skills.
- Detail-oriented and able to multitask.
- Must be self-motivated.
The salary for this position is $130 - 160K or commensurate with experience, plus a potential 25% performance bonus, and full benefits.
