Description
Position Summary
Provide swimming instruction in a safe environment, insuring adherence to pool rules and regulations.
Essential Duties
1. Utilize knowledge and material to provide swimming instruction for various age groups from preschool to adult in accordance with National YMCA guidelines.
2. Responsible for the health and safety of all individuals in the pool, i.e. caution regarding unsafe practices and conditions and perform rescue/first aid when necessary. Report accidents and injuries and complete incident reports.
3. Report maintenance or safety issues to Aquatics Director.
4. Prepare and submit lesson plans and maintain accurate program records for assigned classes.
5. Responsible for attending staff meetings/events. Demonstrate and teach the Character Development values of caring, respect, responsibility and honesty.
6. Responsible for arriving prepared for the scheduled class, which includes arriving for duty 15 minutes prior; in proper attire; prepared for constant concentration and visual surveillance of swimmers with no distractions.
7. Work in harmony and cooperation with the staff, volunteers and members of the YMCA to develop team spirit and family atmosphere.
8. Promote self esteem during class instruction while being an enthusiastic and positive representative of the YMCA.
9. Be a member service ambassador, remaining abreast of current programs and facility schedules; being prepared to provide personalized direction to other services.
Qualifications
• YASA - YMCA Aquatic Safety Assisting
• First Aid and CPR/AED Certificate
• O2 Certification
• Working towards: YMCA Lifeguard Certification, State Lifeguard Certification, Principles of YMCA Aquatics Assistant, YMCA Water Fitness Instructor Certification (Required to be obtained w/in 6 mos. of hire date.)
