JOB SUMMARY:

The School of Aquaculture and Aquatic Sciences (the School) is KSU s Program of Distinction due to exceptional academic, research, and extension functions. The Aquatic Science Manager will help to connect and continually enhance these three program components by performing the job functions listed below.

The Aquatic Science Manager in Aquaculture will serve as a support person for the Chair of the School of Aquaculture and Aquatic Sciences at Kentucky State University. This position will assist with instructional support (40%), research (30%), and extension (30%) related to all necessary aspects of aquaculture and aquatic science. This person will have a managerial role, overseeing the Program of Distinction Virtual Content & Extension Technologies Developer position, and potentially others in the future.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Facilitate admissions and registration for students in all School academic programs
  • Advise students regarding what classes to register for and when (academic planning)
  • Maintain course materials in appropriate learning management software platforms
  • Ensure the School is aligned with online education teaching pedagogy and course design
  • Manage the undergraduate and graduate certificate programs in the School
  • Maintain student records and assemble information required for reporting purposes
  • Design, create, and manage all virtual academic courses for the School
  • Assist with collaborative agreements with other institutions
  • Work with non-degree entities for distance education needs (private companies, non-profits, etc)
  • Help ensure course catalog(s) are up to date and maintain a 5-year course plan for the School
  • Assist graduate students with their research documents (reviewing and revising)
  • Review students research progress and review student presentations and posters
  • Ensure students are meeting their research goals (proposal development, experimental execution, etc)
  • Oversee the Program of Distinction Virtual Content & Extension Technologies Developer position
  • Potentially oversee other research and extension positions as the School grows
  • Facilitate the development of video content for extension purposes
  • Ensure a strong social media presence for the School and positive public relations
  • Help to prepare the annual Program of Distinction Report
  • Ensure that SACS accreditation standards are met
  • Other related duties as required
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge of aquaculture and aquatic sciences
  • Practical experience in research
  • Ability to efficiently organize a diverse work load and delegate tasks
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with excellent communication skills
  • Experience working with students
  • Computer literacy
  • Experience with multiple social media platforms
  • Able to properly use both still and video cameras
  • Initiative, resourcefulness, and punctuality
  • Exhibit professional and personable demeanor
  • Experience in scientific writing
  • Ability to perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

    This position does have supervisory responsibility.

    OTHER DUTIES:

    Position will conduct other related duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • M.S. in Aquaculture, Aquatic Science, Marine Biology, or a closely related discipline
  • 10 years of experience in the relevant discipline
  • WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • May work in adverse weather conditions or indoors in uncomfortable temperature and with water
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require basic safety precautions
