Farm Bureau Financial Services is seeking an Applications Engineer to be part of a high-performing, collaborative team within our Digital Solutions & Services IT department. The team is responsible for Agency Management solutions - a suite of applications supporting agent system of record, compensation/commission calculations, contests/incentives, reporting, and integrations. Informal leadership is required and critical in this role by serving as an approachable mentor who guides others through task leadership and technical reviews and encourages collaboration across domain practices.

What You'll Do:
- Oversee the software development life cycle, including analysis, technical requirements, design, coding, unit testing, implementation and maintenance of application software.
- Augment development team with coding, peer review and proof of concepts.
- Engage in special projects by taking the lead technical role in project proposals, justification, design, development, testing and delivery phases
- Serve as the key liaison between technical and business areas to analyze and resolve complex business problems.
- Mentor IT staff on technology, processes, technical matters and overall staff development.
What It Takes to Join Our Team:
- College degree or equivalent plus at least 7 years of relevant experience required. Four years of experience in insurance industry processing preferred.
- Experience with coding in Java, SQL, XML are required. Knowledge of Informatica PowerCenter, SSRS, Power BI and Cobol are a plus.
- Prior experience with Agency Management applications (agent system of record, compensation/commissions and/or contests/incentives) is a plus.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, be results oriented, and adjust to changing priorities while maintaining a calm, professional demeanor.
- Customer focused mindset with strong analytical, problem solving, and system design skills sets.
- Mature interpersonal skills that foster the ability to work well with others and understand the importance of negotiation and compromise.
- Ability to understand insurance systems and the data sources behind them.
- Strong communication skills both oral and written in both technical and non-technical settings.
