About the job:
As a member of the US Conec Applications Engineering team, you will leverage expertise in our products and connector assembly processes to enable the success of our customers through efforts focused on new product introduction, new process development, industrialization and introduction, support related to existing products and processes, and identification of new adaptations or applications of existing products.
Key job activities will include day-to-day interaction with US Conec's customers and partners through written and verbal technical support, creation of technical documentation, product evaluation and root-cause analyses, process experimentation, the analysis of resulting data, and general collaboration across departments to support the success of key US Conec business programs. Domestic and international travel will be required.
What you will do:
• Work with the Global Sales team, providing technical support to our customers on connector assembly processes, product applications, and product performance.
• Collaborate with customers and others across US Conec on the development of new products and adoption of new and/or existing products in US Conec's portfolio.
• Support US Conec Research and Development and Product Managers on the qualification of new products through advising on product configurations and the documentation of results.
• Design experiments and test plans for evaluation of hypotheses as part a of root-cause analysis efforts, process and/or product validation, termination equipment evaluation, etc.
• Lead and/or support Applications Engineering department projects to improve our systems and/or elevate our technical strength.
• Maintain project timelines and progress based on company priorities and available internal department resources. Provide regular project updates though meetings and other written and verbal communications.
• Represent US Conec across the industry including standards and/or consortia, webinars, conferences, etc.
Equipment and Software Used:
• Contact gauging equipment, such as calipers, and micrometers
• Optical test equipment, optical fiber termination and measurement equipment, microscopes, environmental chambers, and vision measurement systems with associated software
• MS Office Suite
• Data analysis software such as MatLab, JMP, and/or Minitab
• Corporate collaboration and work flow software
• Enterprise Resource Planning software
Requirements
What we'd like you to have:
• B.S. degree in engineering with a preference for mechanical, electrical, or optical engineering.
• More than 5 years of experience in the optical fiber, cable, and/or connectivity industry preferred
• Ability to work as part of a highly-collaborative organization
• Ability to be flexible while multi-tasking, effectively manage time, and re-prioritize multiple projects
• Consistent ability to accomplish assigned objectives
• Knowledge of engineering statistics
• Ability to establish hypotheses, write experimental plans, analyze test results, draw responsible technical conclusions, and recommend next steps
• Knowledge of basic engineering principals in optical science, mechanical design, and/or fiber optics
• Excellent interpersonal skills including verbal (formal and informal) and written communications with an emphasis on organizing and succinctly conveying ideas
• Previous experience in a role / organization requiring customer interaction is preferred
• Willingness to travel, domestic and international
