Job Summary

The Application Systems Administrator II is responsible for the advanced management and security administration of business-critical applications supporting university operations, including ERP systems, academic data, student information systems (SIS), and integrated platforms (e.g., Degree Works, Slate, Applications Manager, Transact). This role ensures seamless functionality across university departments, aligns technology initiatives with institutional goals, and provides leadership in system optimization and security. Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Install, configure, and maintain hardware and software systems, ensuring optimal performance through routine updates, patches, and troubleshooting.
  • Monitor system performance and resolve issues related to hardware, software, and network connectivity, providing technical support to users and escalating complex problems as needed.
  • Document system configurations and incidents, collaborate with senior engineers on projects, and contribute to continuous learning and improvement of systems.
  • Lead the installation, configuration, and maintenance of hardware and software systems, ensuring optimal performance through routine updates, patches, and troubleshooting.
  • Oversee system performance monitoring and resolution of issues related to hardware, software, and network connectivity, providing advanced technical support to users and escalating complex problems as needed.
  • Implement and enforce security protocols, manage user access, ensure data integrity and recovery readiness.
  • Document system configurations and incidents, collaborate with senior engineers on projects, and contribute to continuous learning and improvement of systems.
  • Manage and optimize ERP systems and SIS, ensuring seamless functionality across university departments.
  • Administer, secure, and ensure compliance of ERP, SIS and integrated systems, conducting regular audits, vulnerability assessments, and ensuring adherence to higher education data protection regulations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, department heads, and external vendors to plan, implement, and enhance system upgrades, integrations, and performance improvements.
  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation on system workflows, application processes, and data integration, ensuring comprehensive knowledge sharing across the institution.
  • Lead security initiatives and risk assessments to safeguard university data, ensuring compliance with best practices and minimizing vulnerabilities in business applications.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:
  • This position requires either seven years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field and three years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
  • Professional full-time experience with enterprise systems and applications and current versions of Windows Server/Linux or other enterprise services.
  • Experience with large enterprise computing environments that include multiple site locations.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3 yeas professional, full-time experience with application system support and implementation in a medium-to-large computing environment
  • Experience with Banner, Workday, or other ERP systems.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of basic networking concepts (e.g. Systems, Protocols, Directory Services).
  • Knowledge and proficiency with relevant business systems, operating systems, and servers.
  • Knowledge of and ability to administer local and cloud-based applications (SaaS).
  • Skill in shell scripting/automation, project management of small initiatives, and troubleshooting.
  • Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups.
  • Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and perform work in various situations when numerous and complex demands are involved.
  • Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments.
  • Ability to provide professional customer service.
