Electrical Application Engineer - National Accounts

What this is:

The Electrical Application Engineer resides within the Gear Center of Excellence and will partner with sales to capture National Account customer project needs and develop an electrical solution to be provided by either Eaton or ABB (formerly GE). This will include a detailed review of the current layout and application of equipment, wiring and component selection, lighting control integration, partnering with customer engineers, and various phases of order management within internal and external systems.

What you will be doing as a key player on our dynamic team:
  • Partner with Sales team and other Gear Center of Excellence team members to manage customer orders including detailed review of one-line layouts and application of equipment, wiring diagrams and schematic development, component selection, and verification of applicable codes and standards.
  • Interpret customers' needs and generate a bill of materials based upon single line drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams for low and medium voltage switchboards and panelboards, and lighting controls.
  • Partner internally cross functionally to advise on stock levels for the electrical distribution category - including ABB and Eaton material.
  • Provide technical solutions to customers that may involve equipment design or upgrades, testing of equipment, solutions relating to increase safety, reliability, or efficiency from design stage to completion.
  • Assist customers on technical issues, as needed, and work closely with customer Electrical Engineers confirming layouts, designs and special applications.
  • Collaborate with Sales Operations team to reconcile pricing and lead time variances for incoming orders - utilizing stock and nonstock material.
  • Provide lighting controls support through drawings, e-mail, phone, in person to contractors, sales representatives and customers when needed.
  • Verify complete and accurate order information from Sales team for incoming electrical distribution order - facilitate downstream communication regarding any discrepancies.
  • Prepares manufacturing information for switchboard configurations, utilizing manufacturer's pricing and configurations tools, AutoCAD, and other tools as needed.
  • Supports Sales and Sales Operations team on post order escalated issues.
  • Interface with customers and sales team through site visits, industry events, and in person and virtual presentations.
  • Provides input to leadership, in partnership with sales team, on inventory forecast, storage needs, etc.
  • Assesses continually changing market for additional value adds / investments needed to support customer needs, advising leadership.
  • Exhibit a strong adherence to quality by continually seeking methods of improvement for all functions of the position and the value add for customers.
  • Mentors Sales Operations team members on Electrical Distribution category.
  • Maintains ethical, cooperative customer relationships consistent with company image, mission, vision, and values.
Education:
  • Associate's degree in engineering with 5+ years of Engineering Experience.
Experience:
  • 10+ years of experience involving equipment upgrades including knowledge of low voltage and medium voltage switchgears and apparatus.
  • Experience in distribution.
  • Experience working with Fortune 100 companies.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
  • Skilled at creating and delivering presentations.
  • Epicor Solar Eclipse experience.
  • BidMan (Eaton) and Empower (ABB) experience.
