OverviewThis is a Contract position.
The Lithium Application Engineer is responsible for the completion of lithium-ion battery related projects through the use of engineering problem solving methods and principles. Most assignments will directly relate to responding to customer product application requests (internal and external) for technical information relating to lithium-ion batteries, chargers, and their applications. The scope of these requests will include customer interface regarding proper understanding of lithium use case in support of battery and charger selection, CAN bus communication firmware to communicate with battery chargers, Lithium-Ion Battery Management Systems (BMS) and forklift truck operation and instrumentation.

• Complete and document assigned projects through application of sound electrical and software engineering principles, tools and theories.
• Initiate or revise specifications, deviations, drawings, and proposals as needed in the course of problem resolution.
• Provide technical assistance and training to factory, sales, service, marketing, and customer personnel.
• Develop and execute test plans to fulfill requests for product and application information.
• Develop and instrument battery bench systems.
• Recommend and assist in the development and testing of new products to support lithium customer applications.
• Perform and monitor field evaluations of new lithium products. Document and report field data.
• Recommend design changes to lithium battery and charger systems to improve the product performance
• Develop and implement applications for the proper sale of lithium products.
• Perform review of customer's operations to aid in proper product use and improve customer satisfaction.
• Collect, analyze and interpret data to understand customer applications. Use application data to model application energy use and replenishment in cloud based Stryten modeling system.
• Perform application analysis on customer site to support sales, marketing, and lithium product warranty.
• Provide product application training to sales force and customers. Assist development of training materials.
• Generate ideas leading to cost reduction and product or process improvement.
QualificationsThe requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education, Experience, Certifications:
• Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. Prefer minimum 2 years experience in engineering, testing and/or product development in an industrial environment
• Lithium battery experience preferred
• Must be comfortable and competent working with high energy systems (480V AC, 30Kw battery systems)

• Ability to write detailed technical reports concerning assigned projects
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, good record keeping and
• documentation skills.
PC Software Knowledge:
• Computer applications knowledge in Windows environment with MS Office
Physical Demands:
• Hearing, speaking, seeing, writing, standing, lifting (50 lbs.), sitting, bending, walking, and carrying
Work Environment:
• Normal office environment is typical. However, there will be periodic field and factory visits where there is some exposure to industrial environments including lithium and lead acid batteries, fumes, dirt, and noise
Travel, other requirements:
• Domestic Travel within the US - typical 10-20%
• Additional occasional international travel - once or twice annually for 3-5 day durations
• Ability to rent vehicles for company travel.
