Position Description:
The Diagnostic Design Service Engineer is primarily responsible to design and develop, validate then implement service tool applications to be released on the dealership/aftermarket network vehicle communication support tool. The Diagnostic Design Service Engineer will use specific authoring software, XML scripting tools and engineering analysis tools to develop tool applications. Main responsibilities include:
• Develop diagnostic applications in support of new and previously released and Joint Venture vehicles.
• Leverage various debug programs to understand how data and information "flows" through the software ecosystem.
• Triage and identify resolution path for field concerns.
• Collaborate with team members to analyze vehicles' diagnostic needs then create a support plan and execute according to that plan.
• Interface with Product Engineering regarding new control system technologies requiring new diagnostics service procedures and support.
• Use team adopted workflow web sites such as Share Point, Rally, HPQC to accept work and make sure your software is delivered according to the schedule.
• Ability to learn existing service tool ecosystems supporting the diagnostic service tools IDS and/or FDRS (for example, operating system, vehicle protocol / communication drivers, databases, libraries).
• Design, develop, test, and release service tool features on the diagnostic service tools using OTX/Grade X and/or MCP Wizard, XML scripting tools and software programming tools.
• Manage and understand data, process data requests, and maintain and leverage team templates.
• Interface with Software/Hardware Designer/Supplier to assure design intent is met.
• Perform vehicle validation using both vehicle simulation software as well as on-vehicle validation.

Primary skills Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to understand complexities beyond stated job responsibilities.
• Project Management utilization
• Experience with software development via scripting tools or other standard programming languages.
• Experience capturing vehicle communication bus protocol traffic and ability to read/decipher captured files.

Experience Required:
Experience required Proven ability to successfully meet objectives and delivery deadlines in a self-directed environment.
• Project Management skills and experience.
• Ability to work closely with global teams to communicate and agree on desired outcomes.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Experience Preferred:

• Dealership field experience working with Service Departments and Repair Technicians is a plus.

Education Required:
Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Science or Automotive Technology
