Job Description

Primary area of concentration is on the Enterprise EMR (Epic) system development, maintenance, support, optimization, and upgrade. Provides technical input to project teams, coordinating work plans and activities, data collection and issue identification and/or resolution. Scope of responsibility may include single or multiple applications, projects of mild to moderate complexity that require coordination across multiple functional areas, and also sub-tasks within more complex projects. In conjunction with other Information Technology staff, documents, configures, and tests integrated systems and devices. Participates and/or provides leadership on system design teams. Participates in all quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities. Performs all job duties and responsibilities in a courteous, timely and customer-focused manner according to the Medical Center's Courtesy Performance Standards. Job assignments may be appropriate for partial remote work. May require on call duties. Works under the supervision of an IT Director or designee. May exercise limited project direction to a small number of employees in the Information Technology department.

Responsibilities

  1. Fully adopts and follows all departmental processes such as (but not limited to) change control, IT ticketing system, Epic Content Management, Smartsheets, Google tools, project management tool utilization, and routine status updates and required communications (ex. Red Flag escalations, Root Cause Analysis).
  2. Demonstrates a high level of knowledge and independence in their work and performs work in a proactive, self-motivated, and self-driven manner. Effectively and consistently participates in efforts to develop their personal & professional skills with the goal to benefit their teams and department.
  3. Develops and maintains applicable training documentation for departmental operations on Epic functionality and workflows. Supports customers in gaining/increasing knowledge of their applications.
  4. Develops and maintains testing scripts to ensure content is always relevant and accurate for proper system testing and validation of workflows.
  5. Mentors and develops less experienced staff in the Information Technology Department.
  6. Timely escalation and communication of all issues or concerns to the appropriate parties to ensure resolution and/or delivery of work.
  7. Demonstrates a high level of commitment to optimizing their application(s) by working effectively with Epic and the appropriate operational areas to ensure their application is currently and continuously in a status of '"Optimized'". This includes but not limited to, searching other organizations' best use of the system (e.g. Epic UGM, XGM, User Web) and working with the Epic vendor and other integrated vendors to offer the same optimization opportunities to our organization.
  8. Effectively participates on design teams and coordinates with other analysts, vendors, and operational owners to ensure proper integration of design, testing, and validation. While ensuring clinical care, workflow, revenue and protocol are appropriately considered in system development activities.
  9. Maintains application integration support needs where assigned. This includes, but not limited to documentation of integration points, workflow diagrams, and vendor support information to ensure business continuity.
  10. Provides input into preparation of project plans and schedules (including work breakdown and task completion timeline) for approval of project manager.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned that are important to the Department or Medical Center.


Qualifications

Individuals assigned to this classification must possess all of the following:
  • Bachelor of Science in computer science or other healthcare related field preferred.
  • One of the following System Qualifications
  • Epic Certification and experience.
  • A minimum of one (1) year working as an Analyst on an Epic application team, including 6 months working on an Epic implementation or upgrade.
  • Other Enterprise EMR Certification/Proficiency/Competency
  • A minimum of 3 years of progressive experience working as an Analyst on Enterprise EMR Application team, including 6 months working on implementation or upgrade.
  • A minimum of 3 years above average performance reviews.
  • Ability to demonstrate basic knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office, Google Suite , and other common applications
  • Ability to identify and solve problems
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to conform to departmental performance standards
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, co-workers, other Medical Center employees, physicians, patients, and public
  • In addition to the above, individuals assigned to this classification must also possess one (1) or more of the following:
  • A minimum of six (6) months of Epic post live support (preferred).
  • Previous work experience in any healthcare setting.
  • Currently certified, licensed, or a registered professional in a healthcare related field.
  • Completion of two (2) years of college with courses in a healthcare, IT or business related field.
  • CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Obtain EPIC Certification in the assigned area of the EPIC system within six (6) months.Failure to obtain EPIC Certification within six (6) months shall result in the employee's termination. SPECIAL NOTE: Employees will progress from Application Analyst I to Application Analyst II when the following are met:
  • At least 1 year (2080 hours) on the team as an Epic Certified Analyst
  • Participation in Epic upgrade build, go-live, post live support cycle
  • Most recent evaluation score of 2.5 or higher
