We are a high-growth, fast-paced construction company managing a high volume of financial transactions while maintaining strict compliance with US GAAP. As we scale, we are seeking a hands-on Accounts Payable (AP) Manager who can lead and develop a team, drive process improvements, and ensure efficient and accurate AP operations. This role requires a strong leader with a roll-up-your-sleeves mentality and a passion for developing people and optimizing financial processes.
Job Summary:
The AP Manager will oversee all aspects of the accounts payable function, ensuring timely and accurate processing of vendor invoices, payments, and reconciliations. This individual will be responsible for managing a high-volume AP department, implementing best practices, and maintaining strong internal controls. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, is highly detail-oriented, and is an effective leader who can mentor and grow a team.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Development:
Lead, mentor, and develop an AP team, fostering a high-performance culture.
Provide hands-on training, establish best practices, and ensure team members have clear performance goals.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy in AP processes.
Accounts Payable Operations:
Oversee full-cycle accounts payable processing, including invoice approvals, payment runs, vendor reconciliations, and expense management.
Ensure accurate coding, approvals, and timely payments in compliance with US GAAP and company policies.
Manage AP aging, resolve discrepancies, and maintain strong relationships with vendors and subcontractors.
Ensure compliance with construction industry payment terms, lien waiver requirements, and contract agreements.
Optimize cash flow management by effectively planning and prioritizing payments.
Process Improvement & Compliance:
Implement automation solutions and process enhancements to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Develop and maintain strong internal controls to prevent fraud and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
Partner with the Controller and CFO to enhance reporting, streamline workflows, and support financial audits.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work closely with procurement, project managers, finance, and operations to align AP with business objectives.
Coordinate with legal and contract teams to ensure accurate handling of vendor agreements, retainage payments, and compliance requirements.
Support the month-end and year-end close processes, including AP accruals, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
5+ years of accounts payable experience, with at least 2+ years in a leadership role.
Construction industry experience required, including familiarity with lien waivers and retainage payments.
Strong knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting principles.
Experience managing high-volume AP in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., Sage, Viewpoint, or similar construction accounting software).
Strong problem-solving, analytical, and process improvement skills.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
Hands-on mentality with the ability to step in and assist with AP processing as needed.
