Role: The Analytics Engineer plays a crucial role in the Data & Analytics team by delivering clean, accurate data sets to support the credit union's digital transformation. As we modernize our data environment, this role will help expand the enterprise data warehouse, implement Snowflake and Tableau solutions, and support data integration efforts across various critical business platforms.
Leveraging SQL and Python (or other equivalent tools), the Analytics Engineer will wrangle, transform, and prepare data from both legacy systems (e.g., SSRS, SSIS) and modern cloud environments (e.g., Snowflake). They will build automated data pipelines and develop intuitive dashboards to provide actionable insights across the organization. In addition, the role will contribute to exploring emerging technologies to enhance operational efficiencies, improve member experiences, and drive innovation.
As part of an agile, collaborative team, the Analytics Engineer will work across multiple business areas to identify high-impact analytics opportunities and support the broader data strategy.
Location: Our headquarters are based in Syracuse, NY. We work in a Hybrid Model requiring a minimum of 5 days in-office per month.Essential Functions & Responsibilities:40% Data Discovery & Transformation: - Perform data discovery and exploratory analysis using SQL and Python (or equivalent) in a Snowflake data warehouse environment.
- Wrangle and transform data from legacy systems (e.g., SSRS, SSIS) and modern cloud platforms.
- Contribute to data governance and stewardship efforts, ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
- Support metadata documentation and data cataloging practices.
- Educate business units on trusted data sources, published data models, and proper use of analytics assets.
25% Business Insight & Dashboard Development: - Identify emerging business opportunities and actionable data-driven insights.
- Collaborate with team members to design and build self-service reporting and dashboard solutions using Tableau and other BI tools.
- Gather and document business requirements for data visualization solutions.
- Enhance and maintain existing BI and analytics solutions for greater flexibility and scalability.
20% Ad-Hoc Data Support & Reporting: - Provide support for ad-hoc requests related to data exploration, one-off reporting, and data exports.
- Address regulatory or audit-related data needs as required by business units.
10% Professional Development & Innovation: - Engage in continuous learning, staying updated on emerging technologies (e.g., generative AI).
- Develop new skills in advanced analytics, machine learning, and cloud technologies.
- Contribute to the team's efforts in evaluating and incorporating new tools and technologies into existing workflows.
5% Platform Support & Maintenance: - Provide operational support for analytics platforms and tools, including performance tuning and production monitoring.
- Assist in the deployment and maintenance of approved analytics solutions.
- Participate in the platform evaluation and optimization processes.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:Experience: 5 to 8 years of similar or related experience in data analytics or engineering, including building data pipelines with SQL and Python, developing dashboards in Tableau,
and working with both legacy (SSRS, SSIS) and modern cloud platforms like Snowflake. Experience includes supporting enterprise data initiatives, enabling self-service reporting, and contributing to data governance and transformation efforts.
Education: Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant field, such as Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or similar.
- Coursework or specialized training in Data Analysis, Statistics, Information Management, or Information Technology is preferred.
Interpersonal Skills: Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.
Other Skills: - Experience with the entire reporting lifecycle, from requirements gathering and data transformation to the creation of intuitive visualizations.
- Ability to design and build scalable, self-service dashboards and reporting tools.
- Significant experience in the development and management of ETL/ELT processes.
- Familiarity with tools like Apache Airflow is a plus.
- Ability to perform platform evaluations, manage performance tuning, and assist in system maintenance.
