General Summary of Position
Supports on-site teams with data collection, reporting, interpretation, and analysis. Supports related clinical and operations performance improvement in focused areas across MedStar Health by functioning as an analyst, facilitator, consultant, and/or project manager as required. Supports the attainment of improvements in clinical and operational practice to improve the quality and cost of care provided through any of the following: clinical resource utilization, operational assessments, productivity management, and other improvement methods. Ensures high quality of both the process and results of the work. Ensures that appropriate change management principals are applied in the areas impacted by change.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in the achievement and evaluation of department goals, objectives, budget, policies and procedures. Ensures compliance with governmental and accreditation regulations in any recommendations for performance improvement.
  • Delivers written and oral presentations of the department's work in a professional, persuasive manner.
  • Identifies variances and potential performance improvement opportunities in clinical and operational processes, outcomes and cost data. Supports the development and recommendation of clinical and operational improvements and collaborates with local leadership to develop action plans to accomplish improvements.
  • Initiates, exhibits and supports excellent two-way communication and working relationships with all audiences to foster ongoing information exchange during the development and implementation of clinical and operational initiatives.
  • Learns and understands appropriate MedStar and external data sources and their underlying systems in a manner which enables meaningful and accurate analysis work. Utilizes appropriate data sources and definitions for each analysis. Understands the limits of use for each data source as well as the differences between similar elements in different data sets.
  • Manages focused improvement projects as assigned to meet established goals and time lines. Effectively and efficiently influences processes, outcomes and behaviors to complete assignments in a timely and quality focused manner.
  • Participates in the solution of an array of problems associated with improving operational and clinical practice. Contributes to solutions that incorporate business logic, customer needs and appropriate change management techniques to ensure sustained improvements are implemented.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Performs sophisticated and detailed clinical and operational data analysis (clinical utilization, volume analysis, cost analysis) with outputs that are clear and relevant to the users. Designs analysis methodology and tailors data outputs based on customer needs and understanding. Responsible for the quality control of own work, including internal documentation to ensure replicability as well as providing audit trails in all work. Completes assignments in an efficient, quality focused manner. Communicates any quality issues to IS or appropriate data source provider. Validates and interprets data results, either independently or with assistance, to develop appropriate recommendations or next steps.
  • Presentation of data: Presents complex data with simplicity of design in a clear, easy to understand format. Complex ideas are communicated with clarity, precision, and efficiency in a manner that ensures accurate comprehension by the recipient. Delivers presentations of the work for various parties, ensuring that audiences of all skill levels have a reasonable understanding of the analysis, the results and the meaning/implications of the work outputs. This includes, where appropriate, related training/education of key stakeholders in the use of the tool(s) and interpretation of related data.
  • Responsible for the quality control of individual work, and reviewing the work of others as appropriate. Provides high-quality, high-value outputs to customers on a regular basis.
  • Tools: Builds and maintains accurate, effective databases as required by individual projects. Ensures and validates reliability of input data. Demonstrates high proficiency with data mining and manipulation tools including Excel and Access. Continually improves skill levels through ongoing education and training. Is able to support other members of the department by providing technical assistance and training to them on these tools as needed.


  • Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree in healthcare field or industrial engineering required or
    • Master's degree in related field preferred

    Experience

    • 2 years experience in healthcare data systems, analysis, management, and related healthcare consulting;experience supporting customer groups through data analysis and graphical presentation. required


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Ability to quickly grasp the basic operating tenets of the data systems and put them to use in rapid fashion.
    • Advanced working knowledge of various computer software applications.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to facilitate a focused team to defined outcomes in a timely manner.


    This position has a hiring range of $70,428 - $131,310
